Taylor Swift set the record straight in a recent appearance on BBC Radio 2 to debunk a fan theory that she finds ‘shockingly offensive’.
She was promoting her new album
Swift made an appearance on The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 to promote her most recent album, The Life of a Showgirl.
During the interview, the host asked Swift, 35, about her future in making music.
She shut down a theory that was going around
Since the release of her album on October 3, there has been a theory going around that she will retire from making music once she and fiancé Travis Kelce get married.
Mills asked her, “Taylor, don’t tell me this is your last album?”
He explained the fan theory to her
Swift responded, “What? No,” before Mills explained, “I just saw some fans going, ‘Well, she’s going to get married and then she’s going to have children and then she’s going to be the last album.’”
The singer laughed and said that the sentiment is ‘a shockingly offensive thing to say.’
Swift elaborated on what she said
“It’s not why people get married,” the singer continued. “So that they can quit their job. It’s also like music for me is…”
“I think the fans were just panicking,” Mills added in the conversation.
The singer explained her relationship
“Oh, I know they love to panic sometimes,” Swift added. “But it’s like I love the person that I am with because he loves what I do and he loves how much I am fulfilled by making art and making music.”
“That’s the coolest thing about Travis, like he’s so, he is so passionate about what he does, that me being passionate about what I do, it connects us.”
Swift said Travis wouldn’t ask her to stop
“There’s no point in time where he’s gonna be like, ‘I’m really upset that you’re still making the music. The music thing that I signed up for that I knew you love, I thought you were gonna stop doing that,’” the pop star added.
She’s happy that they can support each other
Swift also shared that it’s ‘the most fun thing in the world to be able to support each other’ despite her and Kelce’s different career paths.
She also went on to point out the similarities between her job and Kelce’s as a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs.
She noted the similarities in their jobs
“We both, as a living, as a job, as a passion, perform for three and a half hours in NFL stadiums,” Swift said.
“We both do three and a half hour shows to entertain people. When I’m in those stadiums, it’s a dressing room, but when he’s in those exact same stadiums, it’s a locker room.”
They love the competitiveness of it
“For him, it’s practice. For me, it’s rehearsal. For him, it’s a game. For me, it’s a show. We just call them different things. It’s a very similar thing. We both have teams,” Swift went on.
“And we’re both competitive, like in fun ways, not in ways that eat away at us, but just like we just love it.”
