A wife shared her disappointment after her husband bought a ‘perfect’ puppy and asked an online community if she should tell him to get rid of it because of this one reason.
She asked an online forum
Taking to the community forum Mumsnet, the wife explained that she had allowed her husband to get a puppy under the condition that he would be its primary caregiver.
“My partner has been wanting to get a puppy for a while,” she wrote. “I already have an elderly dog and an almost 2-year-old puppy.”
They made an agreement on the pet situation
The wife added, “I don’t have a problem with him getting any animal he wants, as long as he looks after it. We talked for months and he agreed he would do the majority of work with the new pup, just as I have with mine.”
Her husband hasn’t held up the deal
She added that her husband hasn’t been taking care of his ‘perfect dog’ for the week it’s been home now.
“She is beautiful and so loving, BUT [he has] yet to do anything with her,” the wife wrote. “In the time she had been with us, he’s fed her once. The rest of the times have been left to me, including the playing and walking.”
A recent incident was her last straw
Recalling a recent incident that made her think about asking her husband to get rid of the dog, the woman wrote, “Last night, me and my daughter went to my sister’s for a girly sleepover before school starts.”
“And I offered to take the dogs with me, but he insisted he could take care of them,” she said, adding that he failed to do so.
The dogs hadn’t been fed
“I left around 7 p.m. so they were all sorted for the night. Today I got home at around 1p.m. … and none of the dogs had been fed,” the wife added.
“I do not agree with getting animals and selling them, but I just don’t know what to do.”
She doesn’t have time to take care of more pets
The woman explained that she already takes care of two dogs and is also taking college classes. “My schedule is already so busy without adding a puppy to the mix,” she said.
In a poll under her post, 92% of more than 500 voters selected ‘You are NOT being unreasonable’.
The majority of users were on her side
The majority of readers agreed with the wife that this is upsetting, with one person replying, “He’s being unfair to you and the puppy.”
“The puppy would be much better off with someone who loved and cared for it.”
Others weren’t too happy with the husband
Another person wrote, “I’d get rid of both him and the puppy as he sounds useless. He couldn’t be bothered to feed an elderly dog and a young puppy?”
A third responded, “I’d get rid of him.”
