Talk show host Seth Meyers has responded after US President Donald Trump called him a ‘deranged lunatic’ on social media.
Trump called him out online
In a Truth Social post made on Saturday November 1, Trump called the Late Night with Seth Meyers host ‘a truly deranged lunatic’.
He also said that Meyers ‘may be the least talented person to ‘perform’ live in the history of television.’
Meyers shared his opinions
Two days later on Monday November 3, Meyers addressed Trump’s post about him in his monologue. Trump had also said in the post that it’s ‘probably illegal’ that Meyers is ‘100% anti-Trump’ on his show.
Meyers said on the show, “The President jeopardizing food assistance for tens of millions of Americans matters.”
The host acknowledged the post

He continued, “What matters far less is when the president posts about me, which he did over the weekend, saying, among other things, that I may be the ‘least talented person to perform live in the history of television,’ calling me a ‘deranged lunatic’ and commenting that I ‘talked endlessly about electric catapults on aircraft carriers.’”
He struck back against the comments
“Look, in general, I try to live by the New Yorker’s creed: when someone is ranting and raving about you, ignore them. Chances are, they’re just going to move on and rant about something else,” Meyers went on.
“But there is one thing that I simply have to address,” he said.
Meyers noted one point in the post
“You can say I’m untalented, you can say I’m deranged, but I’m not the one who talks endlessly about catapults on aircraft carriers,” the host said.
“You’re the one who talks endlessly about catapults on aircraft carriers!” he added, before a series of clips played showing Trump talking about catapults on aircraft carriers over the last few years.
The comedian carried on with the joke
The series of clips elicited laughter among the audience. Meyers went on, “You can say whatever you want about me, that is your First Amendment right, which I have too, right? We all have it? But how dare you say I talk endlessly about catapults.”
Meyers pointed out something else in the post
The comedian also pointed out another detail from Trump’s post where he wrote that he’d watched the host’s show ‘for the first time in years’.
“But just 10 months ago, you wrote, ‘I got stuck watching Marble Mouth Meyers the other night for the first time in months,’” Meyers said.
He doesn’t believe Trump got ‘stuck’ watching
“First of all, stuck? I find it hard to believe you let other people decide what to put on. Everything about your vibe screams, ‘I call the clicker,’” Meyers went on.
“Second, which is it? You watched me for the first time in years this week, or you watched for the first time in months in January?”
He further joked about Trump mentioning it twice
“Do you not remember? Is that how you end up posting six times about a new bathroom? Did you just forget the first five times?” Meyers said.
“Tomorrow, by the way, I’m probably going to wake up to a Trump post that says, ‘Seth Meyers won’t stop talking about the White House bathroom.’”
“But also, like, who am I kidding? Who am I kidding? He’s not going to watch two shows in a row.”
Meyers concluded his point
Returning to his main point, Meyers concluded, “I say this with sincerity: I don’t want to talk about catapults. I don’t want to talk about bathrooms. And I’m realizing that I’m starting to sound like a deranged lunatic.”
“But that’s what you do to us. You make us talk about what you’re talking about, and then we all sound crazy.”
