Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner’s first born daughter Violet, who is 19 years old, reportedly decided to cut ties with her father’s ex-wife Jennifer Lopez, even though they had been quite close before.
Violet was initially upset with the divorce
The 19-year-old who graduated high school last May and is now attending Yale University was reportedly heartbroken after her father and Jennifer Lopez separated.

Lopez had filed for a divorce in August 2024, with the legalities later being finalized in January of this year.
Violet and Lopez were quite close
The teenager and her pop diva step-mother had been close even after Lopez filed for a divorce as the two were reportedly seen spending time together in the Hamptons last summer.
Violet was also visited by the singer’s sister, Lynda Lopez, at her university campus, with the two taking a selfie together to commemorate the moment.
An insider claimed Violet felt used
Despite the apparent close relationship between Violet and her father’s ex-wife Lopez, an insider told the Daily Mail that she has now decided to cut ties with the pop diva, after feeling used in the divorce.
“Violet felt like she was used as a p**n so to speak during her dad’s split from JLo,” they said.
The source also spoke about Garner
The insider also shared that Jennifer Garner, Violet’s mother and Affleck’s first wife, was supportive of her daughter being close with Lopez as “she always puts her children first.”
“But as the divorce loomed, the fact that Violet was hanging out with JLo and wearing her clothes was odd to the family,” the source alleged.
“So too was Lynda Lopez visiting Violet at college,” they continued. The source claimed that Garner didn’t make a fuss of it though.
Garner gives Violet her space
The source also spoke about Garner giving Violet her agency, saying, “She wants Violet to be happy and respects that, as an adult, she can choose who to spend her time with even if Jen does not necessarily agree.”
Violet began to keep a distance
The insider claimed that although Violet was close with Lopez, she began to notice her father was not so happy as his divorce was being played out in the public.
“Over time Violet started to see how upset her father was that their split was at the center of everything,” the insider said.
They also claimed that although Affleck has reportedly never “said a word” about Lopez to the teenager, Violet will “ultimately always be a daddy’s girl.”

“This is why you do not see her [Violet] on public outings with JLo anymore,” the source added.
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez had gotten married in 2022 before the latter filed for divorce in August of 2024.
