Bad Bunny has responded to those criticizing his Super Bowl Halftime Show performance, which is set to take place in February of next year.
He did it on TV
The singer hosted Saturday Night Live on October 4 where he clapped back at critics of his Super Bowl LX Halftime Show performance during his opening monologue for the show.
“I’m very happy, and I think everyone is happy about it — even Fox News,” he teased first.
Then he got serious about it
A series of clips from the network played, stating, “Bad Bunny is my favorite musician, and he should be the next president.”
Bad Bunny then got serious about his gratitude, saying, “But really, I’m very excited to be doing the Super Bowl, and I know that people all around the world who love my music are also happy.”
The rapper expressed his love for the community
The 31-year-old rapper added in Spanish, “Especially all of the Latinos and Latinas in the world here in the United States who have worked to open doors. It’s more than a win for myself, it’s a win for all of us.”
“Our footprints and our contribution in this country, no one will ever be able to take that away or erase it.”
He joked about complaints
Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, poked fun about complaints about his music being in Spanish, and how the halftime show would also be in Spanish.
“If you didn’t understand what I just said. You have four months to learn,” he joked.
He was announced as the halftime act
It was announced on September 28 that the rapper would be the halftime show performer for the Super Bowl LX, which will take place in February at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
The rapper also spoke about it online
Speaking about the gig in a post on X made on the same day, the rapper wrote, “I’ve been thinking about it these days, and after discussing it with my team, I think I’ll do just one date in the United States.”
He had decided not to play in the US
The statement is in reference to his decision to skip touring in the US for his Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour, in fear of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) being outside his concerts.
A top adviser for Trump said ICE would be at Super Bowl
Corey Lewandowski, a top adviser on Trump’s 2016 and 2024 campaigns who now works in support of the Department of Homeland Security, said that ICE will be at the Super Bowl.
Lewandowski said on The Benny Show with Benny Johnson, “There is nowhere you can provide safe haven to people who are in this country illegally. Not the Super Bowl and nowhere else.”
Lewandowski threatened to deport people
“We will find you and apprehend you and put you in a detention facility and deport you,” Lewandowski added.
“So know that is a very real situation under this administration, which is contrary to how it used to be.”
The Homeland Security Secretary echoed this
Kristi Noem, Homeland Security Secretary, shared similar sentiments days later, saying, “I have the responsibility for making sure everybody who goes to the Super Bowl has the opportunity to enjoy it and to leave, and that’s what America is about.”
