Emma Watson’s love potion is finally working! The actress has had a crush on Tom Felton since the pair worked together on the Harry Potter films as Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy .
For many years, though, Emma’s crush was one-sided — until now. In his new memoir, Tom has finally admitted to also crushing on Emma.
Emma has made her crush on Tom known for years.
This adorable confession was made during a 2012 interview on The Jonathan Ross Show .
Emma said that she liked Tom from the time she was 10-12. I mean, hey, who can blame the girl?
“Between the ages of ten and twelve, I had a really terrible crush on Tom Felton,” she said.
“To the extent that I would go into work in the morning and look down the numbers on the call sheet to see if he was going to be in.”
Sadly, though, Tom didn’t return her affections.
Ugh, such a Draco thing to do. “He totally knew [she had a crush on him] and the thing is that he’d tell everyone, ‘I see her in a younger, sisterly way,’ and it just broke my heart. It still does,” Emma said back then .
But now, it appears that Emma’s crush wasn’t so one-sided after all.
In his memoir, Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard , Tom shared that the two of them “definitely nursed crushes on each.” Aww!
The 35-year-old recalled being told by a hair stylist on set that Watson had a crush on him.
“She was 12, I was 15,” he wrote. “I had a girlfriend, and in any case, I’d been programmed to dismiss any talk of that kind of stuff. I laughed it off. In fact, I don’t think I really believed [it].”
Watching Emma/Hermione grow up on set was really special for him.
“She’d never been on a film set before, and out of the lead child actors she was the only girl,” he wrote. The actress was only nine when she joined the franchise.
“She was surrounded by ‘boy humor’ — silly practical jokes and pre-pubescent laddishness … it can’t have been easy,” he continued.
“She was in many ways treated like an adult from the day she was cast.” There was a maturity that came from playing the brainy Hermione.
“It’s a phenomenon that can, I think, be more difficult for girls, than for boys,” he explained.
“They are unfairly sexualized in the media and beyond. They are judged on their appearance, and any hint of assertiveness raises an eyebrow that wouldn’t happen if it came from a guy.”
There was one encounter with Watson that still makes him cringe.
While they were filming Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone , Watson put together a little dance show in her dressing room for Felton and Josh Herdman (who played Gregory Goyle).
Felton admitted that he and Herdman “sniggered” during the performance.
This caused Emma to be “visibly upset by our thoughtless reaction.” He was encouraged to apologize and he did, which Emma accepted.
Felton has always cared for Emma. This may have something to do with his “secret love” for her.
“I denied that I like her in that way,” he wrote, adding that even his girlfriend at the time questioned his feelings for Watson.
“I remember using that familiar old line: ‘I love her like a sister,’” he wrote.
“But there was more to it than that. I don’t think I was ever in love with Emma, but I loved and admired her as a person in a way that I could never explain to anyone else.”
Aww!
