After a long, long while of waiting, the sequel to Top Gun has finally arrived. Top Gun: Maverick was released in theaters just yesterday. Fans of both the original movie and leading man Tom Cruise are ecstatic, and the film opened to some rave reviews.
To thank people who stuck around for this long, Cruise posted a special message to his social media pages.
It may have taken 36 years, but there is finally a sequel to ‘Top Gun’.

Top Gun: Maverick is finally here for all those who’d been waiting for decades now to see Tom Cruise return to his titular role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, taking to the skies and thrilling us with one of the most iconic action movies of all time.
Cruise seems to have faith the sequel will live up to the original.

He fought hard throughout the production of the film to bring as many fan-loved elements back as he could In fact, he was the reason that Val Kilmer returned, saying he “rallied hard” to bring back his co-star.
It’s a project he’s clearly proud of.
He even took to social media to make a special post for the fans.
As seen above, it reads, “36 years after the first film, Top Gun: Maverick is finally here. We made it for the big screen. And we made it for you, the fans. I hope you enjoy the ride this weekend.”
And it seems that many already are.
Before its official release, the film gained quite a bit of critical acclaim, some reviewers even saying it’s better than the original.
Cruise even received a standing ovation and honorary Palme d’Or when the sequel premiered at the Cannes film festival.
It’s clearly a film he’s beyond proud of.

Between how involved he was in the production to how hard he pushed during its promotion, Top Gun: Maverick seems like it’s full of passion from its own leading man and something fans of all ages will enjoy.
