You guys, the most Tom Cruise and Elon Musk thing just happened: these two stars want to make the first-ever movie in space together.
Are we surprised? Nope. Excited? HECK, YES.
Keep reading for all the details!
There’s been a lot of space-related news lately!
First, the highly-anticipated trailer for Space Force , the new Netflix comedy starring Steve Carell, finally came out.
It’s created by Greg Daniels, AKA the creator of *The Office*, so you know it’s going to be good.
The show is expected for blast-off on Netflix on May 29 and we’re sooo counting down the days.
Then, earlier this week, Elon Musk welcomed his first child with girlfriend Grimes into the world.
This news isn’t space-related, but it is once you hear what he supposedly named the son: X Æ A-12
Yes, really. (So far, at least).
These Twitter reactions to it are everything.
And, speaking of Elon Musk, there’s been reports that he and Tom Cruise want to make a movie in space.
This would make a lot of sense for Musk, considering the fact that he owns Space X, a private space transportation company.
It would also make sense for Cruise since the film would reportedly be shot in space, in collaboration with NASA.
Given the fact that Cruise has done pretty much all of his own stunts his whole career, this is nothing new.
His *The Outsiders* co-star, Rob Lowe, recently said that Cruise was doing backflips on set when no one else can.
He also called him competitive.
“He ended up being the only one who could do a backflip. It is in (The Outsiders) for no reason. He runs out of the house and does a backflip for no reason, just to do it.”
When Cruise was filming *Mission Impossible: Fallout*, production was halted after he broke his ankle leaping across rooftops.
“I just [wanted to] keep going because I know I’m not doing this again,” Cruise said of the stunt in a 2018 interview.
“I had to go into full rehab. I had friends calling, ‘Oh man, you want to come down to the south of France.’ [I had to reply] ‘I have got 10 to 12 hours of rehab.'”
He continued:
“I spent years training for these things and I have been doing it for years.”
“So we do everything we can possible to limit any kind of mistakes and we are very thorough about how we approach these things and calculate it.”
“When you are going, there are times I’m not wearing a helmet and we are going high speed,” he explained.
Leaping off rooftops isn’t the only insane stunt Cruise has done for the *Mission Impossible* franchise.
He’s also hung from a helicopter and scaled Burj Khalifa, the Dubai skyscraper.
Basically, he’d be the perfect actor to make history by filming in space.
According to Deadline , this project between Musk and Cruise is still in the very early stages.
Writer Mike Fleming Jr writes that no studio is involved at present.
It would be a first narrative feature film under the genre of action-adventure.
There have been other movies done in Hollywood with a focus on space — Gravity , Interstellar_, Ad Asta — but this would be the first of its kind.
Elon has worked with NASA before, so it would be a good partnership.
According to Space X’s website, “NASA awarded SpaceX with contracts to carry cargo and crew to the International Space Station (ISS).”
What do you think about Tom Cruise and Elon Musk reportedly making a movie in space?
