A woman recently broke up with her boyfriend for the way he treated waitstaff at a restaurant.
She asked for insight on the move

The woman took to the Reddit forum r/AmIOverreacting to ask for insight on breaking up with her boyfriend over his treatment towards waitstaff.
The 20-year-old said she broke up with her 22-year-old boyfriend following his behavior.
They were out for their anniversary

The woman explained that she had been out with her boyfriend for their three-month anniversary, having dinner at a nice restaurant.
“We’re both in college and very broke so this is our first time going somewhere expensive,” she shared.
She explained what happened

“The waiter came and poured glasses of water for us, and when he was pouring my bf’s some spilled on the table. It wasn’t very much and none of it got on my bf,” the woman explained.
But her boyfriend ‘made a scene’

The poster explained that although none of the water spilled on her boyfriend, he ‘immediately made a scene, yelled at the waiter, and asked to talk to a manager.’
He told the manager that the waiter had spilt water on him, and demanded they receive something for free for the inconvenience.
The manager tried to handle the situation

The poster reiterated that there was no truth to her boyfriend’s complaint, but both the waiter and the manager apologized and offered a free dessert for the trouble.
She pointed out that ‘the rest of the night was so awkward.’
She broke up with him afterwards

She added that she broke up with her boyfriend after the meal because she ‘knew he lied’.
More importantly, she was uncomfortable with how he treated the waitstaff, saying that ‘the way he yelled at the waiter was completely unnecessary.’
He tried to explain his stance to her
“He apologized to me and said he knew he shouldn’t have lied but he thought it was a way he could afford the dinner for us,” she wrote.
“I told him it was actually less about the lying and more that he’d yell and talk down to someone just to get something for himself.”
He’s been trying to apologize to her

The woman explained that he’s been trying to convince her to take him back, but that she still feels ‘really uncomfortable’ with the situation.
People under her post assured her that she made the right decision in leaving him.
People were on her side
One person wrote, “Cringe. Great job for dumping him.”
Another said, “You did the right thing. It’s not just about how someone treats you but it’s how they treat others,” adding that the pair just ‘have different thoughts about integrity.’
