Rob Lowe Says Tom Cruise Went 'Ballistic' During 'The Outsiders' Over Sharing A Hotel Room

Tom Cruise might be on the outs with Rob Lowe.

In a new interview, Lowe revealed that Cruise had one serious diva moment when they were auditioning for The Outsiders.

Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll remember the movie *The Outsiders.*

The 1983 film, which celebrated its 37th anniversary last month, was based on the 1967 novel of the same name by S. E. Hinton.

It starred a lot of big names in Hollywood today, such as Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio, and Patrick Swayze.

It also starred Rob Lowe and Tom Cruise, who played Sodapop Curtis — one of the Greasers — and Steve Randle, respectively.

Recently, Lowe spilled some behind-the-scenes secrets on the film.

While on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, he revealed that Cruise actually performed most of his own stunts in the film.

Turns out, the *Mission Impossible* star was pretty "relentless" in learning the tricks.

"He ended up being the only one who could do a backflip. It is in the movie The Outsiders for no reason," Lowe said.

"Just to do it."

Lowe also accused Tom of going "ballistic" when he and Lowe were asked to share a room during auditions.

"All of the L.A. people survived the L.A. auditions, and then the hand-picked people had to go to New York to face the New York version," Lowe explained.

"So it was me and Tom Cruise and Emilio [Estevez] and C. Thomas Howell."

"[It was the] first time I ever stayed at The Plaza Hotel, and we check-in and Tom finds out that we’re sharing a room and just goes ballistic."

Talk about putting a damper on the experience!

Despite this, Rob didn't take the slight to heart.

In fact, it only made him more impressed by Cruise.

He continued:

"To me, what’s great about the story is, there’s certain people who have always been who they are, and that element of them has powered them to where they are today and the rest is history," Lowe said.

In the end, both guys landed parts in the film that was directed by Francis Ford Coppola.

"And the notion that an 18-year-old actor with a walk-on part in Endless Love and like a 7th lede in Taps could have that kind of like wherewithal."

Lowe continued:

"I remember going, 'Wow, this guy is the real deal,'" he said.

"I mean it made me laugh, it was gnarly."

"But in the end of it, you can't argue with the results. He’s had his eye on the ball since day one."

Dax agreeded with Lowe, adding that this type of confidence helped land Cruise the role in *Mission Impossible*.

"No one [just] knocks on anyone's door and says 'Hey, you wanna be in 12 Mission Impossibles."

Yep. Tom Cruise really was the real deal back then.

The actor is 57 and he still has Mission Impossible movies coming out.

The next two, however, are delayed due to the coronavirus.

*Mission Impossible 7* was set to release in July 2021, but it's since been pushed back to November of that same year.

When the actor gets back to filming, we're certain he'll have his own hotel room!
