Queen Elizabeth II, 96, shared a rare photo of her with her late father, King George VI, in honor of Father’s Day this weekend.
The Royal Family is all about, well, family, so it shouldn’t be surprising that they love to celebrate theirs and others around the world when the time comes — and unlike Mother’s Day, the UK celebrates Father’s Day on the same day as us in North America. Emotional tributes to fathers are common for Father’s Day, the Royal Family were no different — including a rare throwback picture from The Queen herself shared to Instagram.
Many members of the Royal Family took to Instagram to honor fathers on Father’s Day.
Including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, who shared a photo of William with his children George, Charlotte, and Louis cheesing for the camera with the caption, “Wishing a Happy Father’s Day to fathers and grandfathers across the world today!”
Prince Charles and Camilla also shared some photos.
“Wishing everyone a very happy Father’s Day!” they shared alongside a series of photographs of Prince Charles with his father and Camilla with her own. The final shot in the post was an adorable throwback shot of Charles with Prince William and Prince Harry when they were just kids.
And, of course, Queen Elizabeth herself got in on the action.
A throwback photo was shared showing a young Queen Elizabeth with her father, King George VI, who passed away on February 6th, 1952, at the age of 56.
“Wishing all of our followers a very happy Father’s Day. The Queen (then Princess Elizabeth) with her father King George VI in 1946,” the post read .
Fans shared their thoughts on the shot in the comments.
“His Late Majesty King George VI would be beaming with pride at his daughter’s achievements,” wrote one fan.
“They are Father/Daughter goals to me,” added another.
We couldn’t agree more!
