Kim Kardashian has once again left everyone in shock after her Met Gala appearance. In case you forgot about the reality star’s 2021 look, it was basically a full-body sweatsuit.
This year, Kim did a complete 180 and wore Marilyn Monroe’s iconic “Happy Birthday Mr. President” dress and as you can imagine, people have a lot of opinions about it.
Now, the saga continues as a deeply personal gift given to Kim is coming under speculation.
By now, we’ve all weighed in on Kim Kardashian’s 2022 Met Gala look.
Love it or hate it, it did exactly what she wanted it to do — spark controversy. Did she look beautiful? Of course! Was it problematic when she explained that she essentially starved herself for three weeks to fit into the iconic gown? Absolutely yes!
As part of the full Marilyn experience, Kim bleached her hair blonde and slipped into the gown the same way the iconic blonde bombshell did — very carefully.
Hopefully, the gown has since been returned back to the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! location in Orlando, Florida.
In a video released by the Ripley’s team on the day after the event, fans watched as Kim was gifted a piece of Marilyn Monroe’s signature platinum locks.
“During @KimKardashian’s Met Gala dress fitting at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! HQ, our team surprised her with a silver box that contained an actual lock of Marilyn’s iconic platinum hair,” the caption read.
“The Ripley’s team also filled her Met Gala dressing room with a trove of Marilyn Monroe and JFK memorabilia to help inspire her look,” they added.
Just like the dress, the gift was controversial.
“You ruined history and decreased the iconic image of a Marilyn Monroe historical moment!” wrote one Marilyn fan.
“That’s weird…” said another. “Just let her rest in piece.”
Kim was understandably shocked at the rare gift and personally thanked each Ripley employee for it while joking she was going to sleep with it beside her.
Now, a Marilyn Monroe historian is weighing in on the gift and is claiming it’s fraudulent.
Scott Fortner took to Instagram a few days after the video was posted to say why he believes the hair is fake.
Anthony defends his allegation by pointing to Ripley’s original description of the hair lock on their website, which claims that the hair was cut by hairstylist Robert Champion.
But, according to Anthony, Robert wasn’t involved at all. Instead, it was hairstylist Kenneth Battelle who was responsible for Marilyn’s “Happy Birthday Mr. President” hair.
His post also includes a receipt proving that Kenneth was charged for his work that fateful night.
“So, I think we have to now wonder: Just who’s hair is she actually sleeping with?,” Anthony concluded.
Honestly, I think having anyone’s hair in your possession is a little bit strange, but if it’s not even Marilyn’s… I can’t imagine what Kim thinking right now.
