Weezer bassist Scott Shriner’s wife Jillian Shriner, AKA Jillian Lauren, was shot by police on Tuesday, April 8, and was later arrested for attempted murder.
The author allegedly pointed a gun at officers who were pursuing a hit-and-run suspect near her residence in Los Angeles, and when she refused to put her gun down, that’s when things got messy for all parties involved.
More about Shriner
Shriner is an author and has several published works under the pen name Jillian Lauren.
These works include Behold the Monster: Confronting America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer, a non-fiction true crime book about convicted murderer Samuel Little, and her memoirs Some Girls: My Life in a Harem and Everything You Ever Wanted.
What went down
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident took place after the California Highway Patrol requested backup to help locate three hit-and-run suspects who fled into a residential area of Eagle Rock in Los Angeles.
The suspects were last seen near the rear of a residence, according to police.
Then appeared Shriner with a gun
“As the officers were in the rear yard of that residence, they observed a female, later identified as 51-year-old Jillian Shriner, in the yard of a neighboring residence armed with a handgun,” the LAPD said in a press release on Wednesday, as reported by ABC News.
She refused to drop the gun
“The officers ordered Shriner to drop the handgun numerous times; however, she refused,” the statement continued.
She pointed her gun at the officers and that’s when they fired at her. It is not known, however, whether Shriner fired her gun or not.
She was eventually taken into custody
Shriner first went to her home after the shooting but she was then taken into custody and transported to a hospital for treatment, as reported by police.
She was then absentee booked for attempted murder and police recovered a 9-mm handgun from her home.
She had no part in the hit-and-run
Officers concluded that Shriner wasn’t a suspect in the hit-and-run. One out of the three suspects in question was detained by California Highway Patrol, while the other two were unfortunately not found.
No officers or civilians were injured in the incident and the shooting is still under investigation, police confirmed.
