Johnny Depp is an enigma. He’s unquestionably one of the biggest stars on the planet, yet has somehow been able to maintain an air of mystery about him for the bulk of his illustrious career.
But despite his reclusive ways, there’s one thing that Johnny has never shied away from — his love and adoration for children. Recently, he spotted a young lad while walking the red carpet and upon seeing the child — decided to go full-on Jack Sparrow .

Johnny first broke onto the scene back in 1984 when he starred in Wes Craven’s horror classic A Nightmare On Elm Street . Since then, he’s become one of the most prolific and sought-after actors in all of Hollywood.
Above all else, Johnny is a character actor, revered for his ability to literally become another person — like a chameleon changing colors with the scenery or a snake shedding its skin.
Without a doubt, one of Johnny’s most iconic characters is Captain Jack Sparrow from Disney’s *Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl*.
The film was a smashing success with critics and audiences alike. Fans watched transfixed as Johnny stumbled and bumbled his way across the big screen; the perfect blend of Pepé Le Pew mixed with just a dash of Keith Richards’ swagger.
Depp’s portrayal of Jack Sparrow garnered him widespread praise.
In fact, Johnny’s performance was so palpable that it landed him his first-ever Oscar nomination for ” Best Actor in a Leading Role ,” as well as helped spawn one of the most successful movie franchises of all time.
Johnny’s days playing Jack Sparrow are now behind him, but that doesn’t mean that swash-buckling buccaneer is gone.
Quite the contrary, in fact. But if you’re hoping to spot the world’s most infamous pirate — you’d best turn your attention to dry land as opposed to the high seas. More specifically, to your nearest children’s hospital.
Depp frequently takes time out to engage with young fans who love his legendary pirate captain.
Over the years, Johnny has been spotted numerous time wandering the children’s ward at various hospitals in order to help bring some cheer into the lives of his young fans.
Recently, one lucky little boy had the pleasure of bumping into Johnny on the red carpet.
The child is dressed head-to-toe in a well-put-together Jack Sparrow costume, complete with a hat and wig. As soon as Johnny notices the child, he immediately comes over and slips into full-blown Jack Sparrow mode.
It’s an incredibly heartwarming scene that appears to leave the young fan speechless. Recognizing the child’s apprehension, Johnny asks (in his best Jack Sparrow voice), “Have you ever seen what you look like?”
“Because I know when I look like that, I look different, but I look the same,” Johnny clumsily remarks.
He then compliments the boy on his choice of outfit, making sure to point out how good he looks, “even though you’re much older than I am,” Johnny jokes.
The boy proceeds to crack a smile a mile wide as he hands Johnny a special drawing made just for him. He also gifts the actor with a small plush raccoon that Johnny graciously accepts.
Overcome by the young boy’s thoughtfulness and generosity, Johnny reaches out for the boy’s hand and shakes it firmly.
Before the two depart, Johnny makes sure to leave the child with a personalized autograph and blows a kiss to the boy and his mother before making his way down the red carpet processional.
Fans all over the internet couldn’t wait to chime in with their thoughts.
“Disney may be able to stop Johnny Depp from starring in the next Pirate of the Caribbean movie but they’ll never be able to take Jack Sparrow away from him,” Twitter user @sunflxwervolsix said.
It is amazing to see Depp taking so much time to make this child’s day.
The video of the encounter has since gone viral, racking up over 30K plays in just a little more than 24 hours. It would seem that even though Captain Jack Sparrow might be gone (for now) he is not and will never be forgotten.
Some fans are still aghast that the franchise will move forward without Depp.
Another user wrote, “whenever i’m[sic] feeling dumb I[sic] just remind myself that Disney[sic] execs actually think Pirates of the Caribbean without Johnny Depp is a GOOD idea and suddenly I[sic] start to feel a lot less dumb.”
