Kate Winslet has shared her thoughts on the popular use of weight loss drugs, and she’s not exactly on board with them.
She shared her candid opinion
In an interview with the Sunday Times, published on Saturday, December 6, Winslet shared her candid perspective on the widespread use of the drugs.
She expressed her concern about their prevalence, saying, “It is devastating.”
She said confidence has become attached to looks
“If a person’s self-esteem is so bound up in how they look, it’s frightening,” Winslet, 50, added.
“And it’s puzzling because I have moments when I think it’s better, when I look at actresses at events dressed how they want, whichever shape.”
Winslet questioned if people understand it
“But then so many people are on weight-loss drugs. It’s so varied,” Winslet went on.
“Some are making choices to be themselves, others do everything they can to not be themselves.”
The actress wonders if health is taken into account
Winslet went on to express that she’s not sure if everyone who uses weight-loss drugs truly knows their effect on their health.
“And do they know what they are putting in [their bodies]? The disregard for one’s health is terrifying,” she said. “It bothers me now more than ever. It is f****** chaos out there.”
Winslet wishes more people accepted themselves
The Holiday star added that she hopes more women accepted themselves as they are and enjoyed the natural aging process instead of using injectables like filler and Botox.
“My favorite thing is when your hands get old,” she shared.
Aging represents living for her
“That’s life, in your hands,” Winslet explained. “Some of the most beautiful women I know are over 70, and what upsets me is that young women have no concept of what being beautiful actually is.”
The actress blames the internet
“What idea of perfection are people aspiring to?” the Titanic star asked, before adding that she blames ‘social media and its effect on mental health’ for the widespread need to meet a certain beauty standard.
