Johnny Depp has been all the world could talk about for years now thanks to his ongoing legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard.
It has led to the actor being “canceled” online due to the abuse allegations that have followed him, but fans are still making sure to support him whenever they can.
Johnny Depp is one of the most famous and beloved actors in the world.
And while many studios and executives have chosen not to work with him due to the abuse allegations that have followed him, Depp has still been able to find some work.
When it comes to all things Depp, people are pretty split down the middle.
And needless to say, he has some very strong feelings about being canceled.
While he’s spoken about it briefly in the past, he got into it pretty intensely this time around.
Recently, Depp was at a press conference at the San Sebastian Film Festival, where he was asked about his feelings when it came to cancel culture.
Not so shockingly, Depp didn’t hold back at all when it came to talking about it.
After all, over the past few years, he’s been all anyone can talk about.
He admitted that everything he was going through was a “complex situation”, according to Variety.
He said that it “can be seen as an event in history that lasted for however long it lasted, this cancel culture or this instant rush to judgement based on essentially what amounts to polluted air that is…”
When asked whether or not he feels safe living in this strange new world brought on by social media, he replied:
“Yeah, I do. The various movements that came out with, I’m sure the best of intentions.”
“It’s so far out of hand now that I can promise you that no one is safe.”
Not one of you. Not one of you… as long as someone is willing to say one sentence. It takes just one sentence and there is no more ground.”
“The carpet has been pulled.”
“It’s not just me this has happened to. It’s happened to a lot of people.”
Which isn’t a lie. It seems like every other day we hear about a celebrity being canceled.
He continued:
“This type of thing has happened to women, men and children who have suffered from various types of unpleasantries and they sadly, at a certain point, begin to think that it’s normal.”
“I believe that if you are armed with the truth, then that’s all you need,”
“It doesn’t matter if a judgment…has taken some artistic license.”
And then, he left it all off with a pretty powerful ending to his little speech.
He addressed the press, and people who were watching or listening online.
“When there is an injustice, whether it’s against you or someone you love, or someone you believe in, stand up, don’t sit down. Don’t sit down on ’em, they need you.”
What do you think about everything that Johnny Depp said?
Do you agree with him or are you on the fence when it comes to cancel culture?
