The director behind Keira Knightley’s new drama thriller says filming it was his ‘worst nightmare’.
Knightley is known for different genres
Keira Knightley is fondly known for her role in the movie adaptation of the Jane Austen romance novel Pride & Prejudice as well as her role as Elizabeth Swann in the adventure franchise Pirates of the Caribbean.
She’s now delving into thriller
Knightley is now set to star in a new Netflix thriller The Woman in Cabin 10, which is based on the 2016 novel by Ruth Ware.
The story surrounds journalist Laura ‘Lo’ Blacklock, played by Knightley, who has been assigned to cover the maiden voyage of a luxurious travel yacht through the Norwegian fjords, but strange things begin to unfold.
The character sees someone thrown overboard
In the story, Knightley’s character believes she sees someone being thrown overboard, but nobody on the cruise believes her, assuring that all guests and crew are accounted for.
She then spends her time trying to uncover what really happened.
The director made a surprising admission
The director, Simon Stone, admitted that filming the movie, which comes out on Netflix on October 10, was a bit of a ‘nightmare’.
Stone said that the filming was on a yacht sailing the English Channel, which came with its own challenges.
The cast and crew were all on it
As the movie was filming on a yacht, the cast and crew had to be there together the entire time.
Stone explained, “Usually on film sets there are ways to escape. You can say, ‘I’m just going to my trailer for a second,’ or someone can drive to Costa Coffee for you.”
He couldn’t escape for a break
“But out in the middle of the English Channel, leaving at seven in the morning and coming back at eight in the evening, you’re stuck on the boat,” Stone went on.
“There’s literally nowhere to go. The only way to escape would be to jump overboard,” he added, per GDN Online.
It was a ‘nightmare’ for him
“It was almost my worst nightmare at first, not having control over my method of escape. But I had to surrender. It actually teaches you to surrender,” Stone said.
Knightley said she’s excited about it
The actress told PA in a recent interview that she’s in a new ‘era’ which she’s excited about. She said, “I’m in the era of doing the kind of stuff I dreamed about as a teenager but never had the chance to try back then.”
“Now I’m finally getting to do it all, and my inner teenager is just like, ‘Cool.’”
