TV star Dick Van Dyke has spoken about life and his career ahead of his upcoming milestone birthday on December 13.
He’s turning 100 years old
The 99-year-old actor spoke about reaching his 100th year in a new interview with People Magazine, published on Tuesday, November 25.
The interview took place at his home in Malibu, where he lives with wife Arlene Silver, 54.
Van Dyke spoke about his health
“I hope I make it,” the comedian told the outlet in regards to his upcoming birthday. He also gave an update on his health, sharing that he’s a bit hard of hearing and sometimes wobbly in his walks.
But he also clarified that he ‘feels really good for 100.”
His energy comes and goes
“Sometimes I have more energy than others — but I never wake up in a bad mood,” the Mary Poppins star shared, adding, “I feel like I’m about 13.”
“People say ‘What did you do right?’ I don’t know. I’m rather lazy,” he admitted.
Van Dyke has steered clear of negativity
“I’ve always thought that anger is one thing that eats up a person’s insides — and hate. And I never really was able to work up a feeling of hate. I think that is one of the chief things that kept me going,” he shared.
He doesn’t let his emotions get to him
“There were things I didn’t like, people I don’t like and disapprove of. But I never really was able to do a white heat kind of hate,” the star added.
“My father was constantly upset by the state of things in his life and it did take him at 73 years old.”
Van Dyke is also not scared of death
The actor also shared that he doesn’t ‘have any fear of death for some reason.’
“I can’t explain that but I don’t,” he admitted. “I’ve had such a wonderfully full and exciting life. That I can’t complain.”
He also shed light on his wife
The star added that having his much-younger wife Silver, whom he married in 2012, keeps him feeling youthful.
He said, “She’s responsible for keeping me in the moment. She kept me happy every day of my life, every day. She’s a joy.”
“She can get me singing or dancing and she carries so much responsibility … I’m just lucky.”
