Author Colleen Hoover has opened up about the legal drama between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni surrounding the movie It Ends With Us, an adaptation of her book with the same name.
She’s spoken about it for the first time
Hoover has finally explicitly addressed the legal battle between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively, who star in the movie adaptation of her book, It Ends WIth Us.
In an interview with Elle Magazine published on Thursday, November 20, the author shared her view point.
Hoover doesn’t want to be involved
“It feels like a circus,” Hoover told the outlet as she explained why she doesn’t want to be publicly involved in the drama.
“When there are real people involved, with real feelings and emotions. This actually truly has impacted some of the actors’ careers in huge ways. And I just find it all around sad.”
She’s trying to keep her distance
Hoover, 45, had been preparing to give deposition in the case within a few weeks from the time of the interview, as pointed out by the outlet.
“I’m just trying to stay removed from the negativity,” she said.
Hoover would rather ‘ignore it’
“I have my own story I could tell … but I don’t want to bring attention to it, and I don’t want to have to put someone else down to lift myself up,” the author added.
“So, I’d rather just ignore it and let people think and say what they’re going to say.”
But the drama has impacted her loved ones
Despite wanting to stay away from the legal drama, Hoover noted that her loved ones were affected by it.
Particularly upset was her mother, whose experiences with the author’s father inspired the novel on domestic violence.
Her mother has had to see ‘more pain’
“The book was inspired by her story, and now it gives us PTSD to think about it,” Hoover said of her mother.
“I feel awful because I almost feel like she’s gone through more with the aftermath of this film, more pain than she went through with my dad, just seeing the ugliness of it.”
This has changed how she thinks about it
Hoover admitted that the issues have affected how she views her work, saying, “I can’t even recommend it anymore. I feel like [the lawsuit] has overshadowed it.”
“I’m almost embarrassed to say I wrote it. When people ask what I do, I’m just like, ‘I’m a writer. Please don’t ask me what I wrote.’”
The legal battle started in December
The drama surrounding the movie started in December 2024 when Blake Lively filed a lawsuit accusing Justin Baldoni of sexual harassment and defamation, which Baldoni countered with suing for defamation and extortion.
