Johnny Depp lawyer Camille Vasquez is now speaking out against what she described as a sexist rumor that she started dating her client during his defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard.
Over the course of the explosive trial that recently wrapped up , Vasquez made a name for herself among Depp’s fanbase as a passionate and cunning advocate for him.
This has not only earned her something of a fandom in her own right , but her work on the trial has also led to some serious career advancements at her firm.
But as this phenomenon started to develop, fans and critics alike started to speculate that there was more to their relationship than simply a dedicated professional and her client.
And as she recently made clear, Vasquez is having none of the rumor mill’s latest assumptions.
In late May, rumors started to circle online claiming that Johnny Depp was secretly dating his lawyer Camille Vasquez.
As 7News reported, they appeared to be fueled by courtroom videos that showed Vasquez rubbing Depp’s back and hugging him .
They also didn’t abate after paparazzi asked her about the rumors on the day she cross-examined Heard. Because while she didn’t answer, she smiled and appeared to nod and shake her head at the same time.
However, Vasquez has not only recently confirmed these rumors are untrue, but expressed her disappointment as to how they spread in an interview with People.

As she told the magazine, “It’s disappointing that certain outlets kind of ran with it or said that my interactions with Johnny — who is a friend and I’ve known and represented for four-and-a-half years now — that my interactions in any way were inappropriate or unprofessional.”
She also maintained that she is already in a committed relationship with her boyfriend and is very happy with her romantic life the way it is.
Instead, she said that any affectionate body language she showed Depp came out of sympathy for his situation as she said it broke her heart to see him “fighting for his life.”
In her words, “And if I could provide any bit of comfort, then of course I would do that, whether it’s holding his hand or letting him know that we were there and we were going to fight for him because he deserved it.”
She also said that she is similarly affectionate to all of her friends and colleagues, which she attributed to her Cuban and Colombian upbringing.
And most importantly, Vasquez reminded speculators that it’s highly unethical for a lawyer to date their clients.

As she put it, “It’s also an unethical charge being made. It’s sexist. It’s unfortunate and it’s disappointing, but at the same time it kind of comes with the territory. I can’t say I was all that surprised.”
She added that she’s far from the only woman to attract such rumors just by doing her job. She also described her profession as her love and herself as someone who loves very deeply.
As she said, “I care very deeply about my clients, and we have obviously become close. But when I say we, I mean the entire team, and of course that includes Johnny.”
