Actress Brigitte Bardot has cleared the air about ‘fake news’ that she had passed away following a trip to the hospital that lasted almost three weeks.
An influencer said she was dead
Bardot, 91, shut down rumors of her death in a post to her X account.
According to The Daily Mail, this comes after 27-year-old influencer Aqababe, whose real name is Aniss Zitouni, said in a since-deleted post that the actress was dead.
Bardot wrote the post on Wednesday
Responding in a post on X made on Wednesday, October 22, Bardot wrote in French, “I don’t know who is the idiot who started this “fake news” about my disappearance but know that I am doing well and I have no plan on taking my bow. A word to the wise.”
She was hospitalized for nearly three weeks
This statement from Bardot also comes nearly a week after French newspaper Var-Matin reported on October 16 that she was hospitalized for almost three weeks in Toulon, France.
She had reportedly undergone surgery at a private hospital ‘as part of a serious illness’.
Aqababe claimed to have information
At the time, outlets said Bardot’s condition was ‘worrying’ but that she was expected to be released and return to her home.
The Daily Mail reported that Aqababe had then posted the rumor of Bardot’s death, claiming that they have ‘exclusive information’.
They even claimed they knew about arrangements
According to the outlet, the deleted post claimed, “Her coffin was ordered in Saint-Paul-de-Jarrat in the 09 (Ariège) department. An icon has passed away, leaving behind an unforgettable legacy and an eternal imprint on the hearts of the French.”
They stand by their statement despite Bardot’s response
After Bardot’s response, Aqababe stated that they stand by their statement that she has passed away, claiming that it isn’t Bardot herself who runs her account on X.
Aqababe’s post in French reads, “I deleted my exclusive tweet about Brigitte Bardot’s death. It’s not her who manages her Twitter, you’ll see when the AFP officially announces the death.”
Bardot reportedly thanked hospital staff
Following a hospitalization that lasted nearly three weeks, Bardot returned to her home in St. Tropez, with her office saying in a statement to the AFP via Reuters that her ‘minor surgery’ went well.
She also reportedly thanked the hospital staff and surgical team at the Saint-Jean Private Hospital in Toulon.
