Television’s best and brightest were out in full force at the 73rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards . The star-studded event was packed with highlights and also included a few truly head-turning moments.
Below is a collection of the 15 best and weirdest moments from the Primetime Emmys. Have a look and see which of your favorite stars made the list!
**BEST:** Remembering Michael K. Williams.

Whether you knew him as Omar from The Wire , the notorious Chalky White in HBO’s groundbreaking Boardwalk Empire or more recently as Montrose Freeman in Lovecraft Country — there’s no denying that Michael was an icon.
**WEIRD:** Snubbing Michael K. Williams.

I loved The Crown and I love Tobias Menzies. But did he deserve to win the award for “Supporting Actor in a Drama Series” over a posthumous Michael K. Williams? No, he did not.
**BEST:** Hannah Wattingham takes home the gold.

Hannah’s speech was everything you hoped it would be and more. It was funny, heartwarming, and inspiring. She didn’t even haze Seth Rogen for pronouncing her last name ” Wattington ” instead of Wattingham.
**WEIRD:** *WandaVision* goes home empty.
Love it or hate it, Marvel Comics currently rules the cinematic world in which we live. WandaVision was unlike any show to ever come before it, pushing the boundaries of the 4th wall like never before. To think they went home with nothing seems outlandish.
**BEST:** Debbie Allen’s speech.
Debbie gave an impassioned speech urging the young people of the world to claim their power and find their voice. The best part was when she told the producers to turn off her time clock, since she wasn’t paying attention to it anyway.
**WEIRD:** Scott Frank’s and William Horberg’s acceptance speech.

Showrunners said that one of the main objectives of The Queen’s Gambit was to topple the patriarchy. If that’s so, then it probably wasn’t the smartest move for William Horberg to congratulate Anya Taylor-Joy for bringing the sexy back into the world of chess.
**BEST:** Conan O’Brien crashing John Oliver and Stephen Colbert’s acceptance speeches.

This past year, comedy and late-night fans around the world said goodbye to Conan O’Brien — arguably the greatest late-night comedian who ever lived. Hopefully, this isn’t the last we’ve seen of him.
**WEIRD:** Ken Jeong’s incredibly long bit with the security guard.
It’s not that Ken’s bit wasn’t unfunny, but rather that it went on for way too long! Were they trying to kill dead or did they actually intend for the joke to die on stage?
**BEST:** The sheer amount of respect shown for *Ted Lasso*.
If you’re not already a fan, then you’ve no doubt heard about the greatness that is Ted Lasso . If you’re hesitant to believe your friends, you can be sure to trust the 20 Emmy nominations the show received.
**WEIRD:** Cedric’s TV wives.

This joke might have been considered funny back in the 90s, but by today’s standards — it just comes across as sexist and a bit self-aggrandizing. To show these three talented actresses fighting over Cedric the Entertainer seems a little insulting.
**BEST:** Seth Rogen calling out the Emmys for blatantly disregarding COVID-19 protocols.

“There is way too many of us in this little room,” Seth joked to the crowd. “What are we doing? They said this was outdoors ; it’s not! I would not have come to this!”
**WEIRD:** Rita Wilson’s rapping.

How in the world does Rita Wilson find herself on stage next to one of hip-hop’s most iconic artists of all time? And did anyone catch her Jay-Z quote on the red carpet? That was painful.
**BEST:** Lil Dicky and LLCOOLJ’s opening number.

No matter how much time passes one thing remains: Ladies still Love Cool James! Don’t sleep on Lil Dicky , either. He may come across as a bit gimmicky but underneath it all, this guy can really rap.
**WEIRD:** the complete and utter lack of diversity.
How many awards shows have been called out for this over the past 5-plus years? Sure, there may have been more non-white nominees for acting than ever before — but not a single person of color walked home a winner.
**BEST:** Schitt happens.
The unquestionable highlight of the entire evening was seeing the stars of the iconic Canadian sitcom Schitt’s Creek reunited once again. For a minute there, I actually thought that the teleprompter was blank!
