Paul McCartney took to the main stage of the absolutely massive Glastonbury festival for the first time in almost 20 years last night, not only performing an incredible show on his own, but bringing on numerous famous guests to sing along with him.
This included a digitized version of Beatles’ bandmate John Lennon , an experience McCartney called ‘special’ and fans absolutely adored.
Paul McCartney performed at Glastonbury for the first time since 2004.
Not only has it been a while, but at 80 years old he made history as the oldest solo headliner the festival has ever had.
It was quite a show too, filled with star guest appearances.
The one that shocked people the most was more of a technical feat.
McCartney was able to perform a ‘duet’ with bandmate John Lennon, who passed over 40 years ago, thanks to a technical setup created by director Peter Jackson.
A video of Lennon singing played on the screen behind him, and Lennon’s isolated vocals rang clear so it genuinely sounded like he and McCartney were singing together. They performed The Beatles’ 1970 hit ‘I’ve Got A Feeling’ .
It was a truly magical moment for all present.
Including McCartney himself. After the performance, he said to the crowd, “That is so special for me. I know it’s virtual. There I am singing with John again, we’re back together.”
That wasn’t where the special features stopped, though.
He then invited Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl, on stage where they performed a few songs together, including ‘Band On The Run’ .
Before Grohl left the stage, McCartney said, “Love you Dave thank you man we all love you. […] He said you know he’ll come over and I didn’t believe him but I should have, he showed up.”
The following guest brought on stage was Bruce Springsteen.
“We have another surprise for you from the east coast of America, New Jersey, it’s Mr. Bruce Springsteen,” the signer announced.
Springsteen wished him a happy (belated) birthday, as McCartney turned 80 on June 18, then the two performed ‘Glory Days’ together.
It was an eventful and magical show for all in attendance.

It was a celebration of not just McCartney’s and The Beatles’ music, but music throughout the decades. There was even a Jimi Hendrix tribute during the show.
All who were lucky enough to go will surely remember this fantastic show for decades to come.
