Do you have a relatively simple task that you struggle with that others seem to perform just fine? Tying your shoes maybe? Washing your dishes right the first time? How about telling right from left?
The last one is an act that lots of people have issues with, but one girl might have just found the perfect, if not a little extreme, solution .
Do you struggle with your lefts and rights?
If you don’t, do you know someone who does? Someone who has to hold their index finger and thumbs out in an ‘L’ shape in order to remember which is which?
A solution for their struggle has arrived.
Though some might find it a little drastic.
A TikTok recently went viral, having gained over 519k likes and 9 million views, featuring a girl filming her sister getting ‘L’ and ‘R’ tattooed on her hands to forever mark the difference.
The video shows her sitting at a table done up with tattooing gear.
The TikTok text-to-speech voice reads out the on-screen text, “My sister doesn’t know her left and rights so she got them tattood [sic] on her l***o.”
The video zooms in and shows the small letters under her thumbs, where her hands meet her wrists.
The comments were very supportive, with tons of people saying they felt seen and were happy to know they weren’t the only ones who struggle with this.
There were also many others wishing to get the very same tattoos.
“I wish I could have had these done while I was growing up,” read one response.
“Bro when someone says ‘ok which way again?’ I panic,” said another.
Others thought this was a little much.
“So just making the ‘L’ shape with your thumb and index finger of your left hand isn’t easy enough?” asked one user.
In a similar vein, someone wrote, “As being a right-hand writer I always tell myself ‘you write with your right.'”
Then there were those introducing new anxieties into the mix.
“I WOULD DO THIS THEN ACCISENTALLY [sic] GET THEM TATTOED ON THE WRONG SIDES,” said one very passionate commenter.
Others got anxious just watching the video, saying, “The [fact that I] thought she got them the wrong way round n checked it using the making and L with ur fingers method.”
So, is this the solution for you?
As mentioned before, it is permanent, but it’s also wickedly effective. A quick glance at your thumbs and you’ve got all the info you need!
For those already covered in tattoos, these would likely blend in a lot easier, while those with bare arms might find they stick out a little.
As with anything, your mileage may vary.
If it’s not your thing, that’s totally fine, but at least it’s a funny story regardless. I think it’s good for us to embrace the things we struggle with and find proper accommodations for it, even if it’s things others find simple! No shame in helping yourself!
