Winona Ryder, 50, is speaking up about her split from Johnny Depp, 59, in the ’90s in a rare interview.
Breakups can be hard, and when you’re a celebrity, it’s even harder, because not only do you have to deal with your own feelings, you have to deal with the entire world having an opinion on your breakup too. Winona Ryder is opening up about how she kept that experience private after her breakup with actor Johnny Depp.
Winona and Johnny were THE power couple of the ’90s.

The couple were together from 1989 to 1993, and had a whirlwind relationship that involved Johnny getting a tattoo that read “Winona Forever” that was then changed to “Wino Forever” after they broke up. Winona has referred to the breakup as her “first real heartbreak.”
Winona has been private about the relationship and the breakup, but has opened up about the experience in a new interview .
“That was my Girl, Interrupted real life,” she said of the breakup.

“I remember, I was playing this character who ends up getting tortured in a Chilean prison,” Winona continued. “I would look at these fake bruises and cuts on my face [from the shoot], and I would struggle to see myself as this little girl. ‘Would you be treating this girl like you’re treating yourself?’”
“I remember looking at myself and saying, ‘This is what I’m doing to myself inside.’”

“Because I just wasn’t taking care of myself.” Winona also opened up about how her costar, Michelle Pfeiffer, helped talk her through the emotional pain she was going through. “I remember Michelle [Pfeiffer] being like, ‘This is going to pass.’ But I couldn’t hear it.”
“I’ve never talked about it,” Winona admitted.
“There’s this part of me that’s very private. I have such, like, a place in my heart for those days. But for someone younger who grew up with social media, it’s hard to describe.”
