If you currently have or had young kids at any point, you know they can get up to the silliest of things without any real basis for it. They make their own rules for life that make perfect sense in their minds but don’t really translate well to other people.
Singer Alanis Morissette revealed that one of her kid’s quirks is that her daughter only refers to her by her full name lately, not using ‘mom’ at all anymore.
For most of us, calling our moms by their full names is unheard of.
But for one famous singer, that’s a part of her daily life, as she recently revealed that her daughter refuses to call her ‘mom’ and will only address her by her first and last name.
Alanis Morissette is the celebrity mom in question,
She was on the Gary Bryan Morning Show when she explained why her six-year-old daughter, Onyx, has seemingly done away with parental titles and switched to a more formal means of communicating.
It only seems to be her daughter, not her two sons.
“My daughter has taken to calling me by my full name because she notices that no one uses my full name when we’re in personal environments,” she explained last week.
“So instead of saying ‘mom,’ she’ll say, ‘Alanis Morissette.'”
The idea of a kid trying to bring more professionalism into the home really is funny, and is the exact type of thing they would find perfectly reasonable.
Morissette didn’t indicate that this bothered her at all. It’s more silly than anything, and something Onyx will surely grow out of.
Kids do the darndest things.
They’re also very kind though, something else Morissette spoke about.
She revealed that all three of her children are big fans of her music. “They do [listen], even when I’m like ‘shut that off!” she said, “They’re so sweet.”
Morissette has previously talked about how she tackles her children’s education.
She uses a more unconventional approach known as ‘unschooling’.
As she told Health.com in 2020, “Unschooling, for me, is child-led education. So if there’s some agenda like, ‘Let’s play with these magnet tiles,’ and my daughter is like, ‘[Expletive] those tiles. I want to put glitter on that thing and cut the tree and put the thing,’ boom — we do that.”
She knows it’s not for everyone, though.
“When I share with people that I unschool, a lot of people I’m close with say they’d love to do it but just can’t. And I get it. I’m like, ‘Yes. I understand, and I think it’s a smart choice not to do it.’ It’s a major commitment.”
It can be hard figuring out what works for your family.
Every child has such a unique perspective and special creativity, there are a million different ways that could be fostered and encouraged in a healthy manner.
Finding one that works for not only your kids, but yourself as well, is a huge feat!
Whatever Morissette is doing is surely working.
Her kids seem to feel safe sharing with her and approaching things in new ways around her, even if they’re a little silly like calling her by her full name rather than just ‘mom’.
