Major life scares more often than not completely change a person’s outlook on life. In most cases, when a person faces a near-death experience, they come out on the other side as a completely new person. The individual gets a better understanding of what matters in life and shifts their priorities accordingly. Antonio Banderas is someone who experienced the same thing after suffering a heart attack in 2017.
A Near-Death Experience
In 2017, the 62-year-old felt a pain in his chest. He immediately knew what was going on and called his wife to help him. His wife rushed him to the hospital where it was confirmed that he had indeed had a heart attack. After conducting the necessary tests, Banders underwent surgery where he had three stents inserted into his arteries.
A New Outlook on Life
In a recent interview, Banderas went on to brand the heart attack as the best thing that has ever happened to him. Although this might sound bizarre, the Spanish star’s reasoning for the same makes a lot of sense. He said , “I realized that it probably was one of the best things that ever happened in my life because the things that were not important and I was worried every day about them, meaningless. I was like, why am I worried about that if I’m going to die?. I knew always [that I was going to die], but now I know. I’ve seen it right here.”
Girlfriend to the Rescue
In an interview a few years back, Banderas credited his girlfriend for saving his life. He went on to narrate that the day before he had the heart attack, Nicole Kimpel, his girlfriend, had a splitting headache and bought aspirins to help her out. The next morning when he husband complained of chest pain, she immediately gave him the pills which ultimately played a huge role in his survival.
Second Chance
He went on to add, “The next morning when I started having the symptoms and I clearly knew what was going on, she put one of those aspirins inside of my tongue and that saved my life. Yeah. So I had a second chance.” The 62-year-old is currently preparing for the debut of his movie Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny early next year where he will feature alongside the likes of Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and John Rhys-Davies among other big names.
