Tom Hardy just dropped something on Instagram that’s making fans freak out.
Taboo is one of Tom Hardy’s popular projects
Hardy’s no stranger to crime roles. Whether it’s Peaky Blinders or Inception, we’re pretty used to seeing him in that world.
The show follows James Delaney’s return to London

Hardy plays James Keziah Delaney, an adventurer who returns home during the 1812 war, trying to rebuild his father’s shipping business. But, of course, his rivals and even the government want what he’s got, and they’ll do whatever it takes to get it.
Taboo season one ended in 2017
Eight episodes, last one aired on February 28.
A second season was planned but got delayed
Season two was supposed to drop in 2019— writer Steven Knight even wrote six episodes. But between scheduling conflicts and the whole pandemic thing, it got put on hold.
But then Tom Hardy posted something…

You can probably guess how hyped Taboo fans were when Hardy posted that signature theme photo on Instagram. No comments allowed, of course, but with tens of thousands of likes rolling in, it’s pretty clear people are dying to know what’s up.
Hardy’s been all in on a second season for a while now

Back in 2021, he told Esquire, “The second season of Taboo is really, really important to me, and it’s taken a lot of thinking, because I really enjoyed the first one and I want to be really fulfilled by the second one.”
He also mentioned there was “a series… already written”, but wasn’t sure if they’d actually stick with that script.
Fans took the gossip to other social media platforms

Over on Reddit, fans were hoping this random Instagram post meant season two is finally happening.
One person wrote, “Just saw this and noticed that he limited comments on it. If this isn’t about season 2, he’s trolling magnificently.”
Could it be a stunt?
In 2023, Hardy’s production partner, Dean Baker, set the record straight in an interview with Radio Times, saying, “Currently we are working on a second season of Taboo.”
So yeah, it’s happening. The only question is… when?
Hardy has wild ideas for the upcoming season

Back in 2021, he threw out a pretty unexpected vision for season two (or beyond), saying:
“In my head I was thinking, ‘Let’s say they get to America, they get to Canada, fast-forward to 1968, the Tet Offensive, the Vietnam War, look at the CIA, the Viet Cong, the French in Saigon. Take the Delaney family tree out in the jungle, and recreate the same family dynamics that were happening in London but with new people, thinking about how history and corruption repeats itself.”
“It’s still Taboo, it’s still period, but it’s the Sixties.”
