A lot of work goes into making a movie or a TV show. And sometimes, that kind of work means that members of the cast and/or crew might end up butting heads. Or, they could be excluded, fired, or re-hired .
In these shows and movies, plenty of behind-the-scenes drama took place, which ended up changing characters and plotlines (or, creators and actors added little nods or jokes to address the drama).

‘Chef’ seems to mirror Jon Favreau’s career.
Starring, written, and directed by Jon Favreau, Chef follows Carl Casper, a chef for a high-end restaurant who feels stuck doing things by the book, and leaves to pursue a career as a food truck owner.
And when you look at his film resume, it feels strangely fitting.
In his career, Favreau has directed smaller scale, indie movies before moving onto big studio hits (and misses) like Iron Man and Cowboys & Aliens . For Chef , he actually scaled back and made his film without the direction of a big-budget studio . Kind of like his character does over the course of the film.
Kevin Feige and Ike Perlmutter’s disagreements almost cost ‘Captain America: Civil War.’
The production of Captain America: Civil War was marked with its own internal civil war of sorts, between Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Marvel Entertainment CEO Ike Perlmutter.
In fact, the drama almost led to Feige’s departure from the studio.
Feige r eportedly threatened to quit over having to work with Perlmutter , which lead to Disney CEO Bob Iger restructuring Marvel so the two wouldn’t be near one another.
Perlmutter also nearly kept Robert Downey Jr. from appearing in the film, so there’s that.
Charisma Carpenter was fired from ‘Angel’ for having a baby.
Carpenter first appeared in Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Cordelia Chase, before moving to reprise her role in Angel a spinoff of the show. Carpenter was part of the main cast for four seasons, before being largely absent for the fifth and final.
It wasn’t until last year that Carpenter decided to speak out against Joss Whedon.
In 2021, Carpenter took to Twitter to come forward about the emotional abuse she endured from Whedon, creator of both Buffy and Angel .
According to Carpenter, the reason why she did not star in the fifth season (apart from a guest appearance) is because she had been pregnant with her first child , as if to punish her for having a baby in the first place.
Tobey Maguire was almost fired from ‘Spider-Man’ over back issues.
Between filming Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 , Maguire endured some back pain while filming another movie, Seabiscuit . Because of that, he kept asking Sony to push back filming the Spider-Man sequel to give his back time to heal.
But the studio considered firing him, especially since there were rumors that he was delaying filming in order to get more money.
But in the end, the movie was made, and they even included the “my back” scene as a nod to the controversy. That scene alone became such a meme, it was even referenced again in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home .
‘Community’s’ “gas leak year” is one huge reference to Dan Harmon not being involved in a season.
Dan Harmon, creator of Community , was absent from the show’s fourth season. And as a result, fans noticed a sharp decline in quality. Harmon returned for the show’s last two seasons, which many people thought were much better.
One of the reasons why season 4 was considered not-so-good was because of the way the characters were written.
Many episodes in the fourth season featured the characters acting, well, out of character , almost like caricatures of their normal selves. Subsequently, the events of season 4 were chalked up to a “gas leak,” with it being dubbed the gas leak year.
And the reason Chevy Chase left ‘Community’ is because he disagreed with Harmon.
For three-and-a-half seasons, Chase played Pierce Hawthorne, an older millionaire who comes across as somewhat of a bigot. In real life, though, Chase had issues with the way his character was portrayed.
And those issues created tension between himself and Harmon.
Toward the end of season 3’s filming, Chase reportedly walked off set and refused to film a scene he did not think was funny. Harmon seriously took issue with this and reportedly called Chase out over it during the season’s wrap party.
Chase was absent for half of season 4, and then killed off at the beginning of season 5, marking his departure from the show.
There was apparently a feud between ‘The Good Wife’ stars Julianna Margulies and Archie Panjabi.
While to this day both actresses deny the feud even being real, there’s a lot of evidence pointing toward the fact that the two couldn’t even be in the same room together.
For starters, they stopped appearing in scenes together.
And then, when Panjabi’s character, Kalinda Sharma, was set to leave the show, the two actresses were filmed in separate locations and green screened together. According to Margulies, this is because Panjabi was busy filming another pilot at the time, however a tweet from Panjabi disputed that.
‘Euphoria’ star Barbie Ferreira and Sam Levinson apparently didn’t get along.
As the story goes, Ferreira was unhappy with the storyline Levinson gave her character, Kat, for season 2. This caused a lot of tension between the actress and the show’s creator.
To the point where Ferreira didn’t even show up to the season 2 premiere.
She has also been written out of the show for its third season , showing that the tensions between herself and Levinson were just much too high.
‘Glee’s’ Rachel Berry is pretty similar to actress Lea Michele.
Lea Michele stepped off Broadway and into television with Glee , appearing as Rachel Berry, resident diva. But according to most people who have worked with her, that characterization isn’t far from the truth.
In fact, she’s been called out several times by costars for poor treatment.
Several of her costars from Glee , as well as other shows such as The Mayor and Scream Queens , have called Michele out on her diva behavior. It paints Rachel Berry in a different light.
The pandemic inadvertently changed the plot of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’
The Doctor Strange sequel saw a number of delays as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic that began in early 2020. As such, the script changed a few times.
Multiple reshoots were done as well.
Apparently, one of the ways in which the plot changed for the film was that they made Wanda Maximoff into the film’s villain , though Elizabeth Olsen was reportedly always going to join the cast of the film.
