Well, here we are again. In case you missed the large amount of news about Kanye West the past two weeks, the rapper is at it again, dropping statements nobody wants to hear.
In his latest, West produced T-shirts with the s******a embroidered at the front and made them the only item on sale on his brand website, Yeezy.com. He did this before calling the masses to visit the site in a Super Bowl ad, which he paid millions of dollars for.
This drove Shopify to cut the hate from the source, shutting down his website.
The shirts he put on sale
The rapper put white T-shirts with a black s******a embroidered on the front on sale for $20 on his fashion company’s website. He advertised for them at the Super Bowl where he aired an ad that prompted people to visit the website.
Prior to the Super Bowl ad, the website had had other clothing items on sale, but upon its airing, there was only this one item available to buy. This is according to Variety.
Reactions to West’s move
Naturally, people greatly condemned this move by West. This also comes after a 4-day-long rant last week on social media where he posted offensive messages of the antisemitic, misogynistic, racist, and homophobic kind.
People aren’t having it. In addition to Shopify closing his website, talent agencies, ex-workers, and others in the industry are speaking up.
According to Forbes, West’s talent agency has dropped him and an ex-Yeezy worker filed a lawsuit against him. Singer Charlie Puth also posted a plea to the rapper two days ago, begging him to stop spewing dangerous messages.
Shopify took the website down
As of yesterday, 11 February, the Yeezy.com website has been down. Upon visiting it, people found they were greeted with the message, “Something went wrong. What happened? This store is unavailable.”
Shopify, the widely used e-commerce platform and the host of Yeezy.com, confirmed that it had taken the website down.
West had broken conduct rules
“All merchants are responsible for following the rules of our platform. This merchant did not engage in authentic commerce practices and violated our terms, so we removed them from Shopify,” the company told CNN and other news outlets.
He was dropped by his agency
The Los Angeles talent agency, 33&West, dropped the rapper as a client on Monday, with his agent Danuel McCartney announcing on Instagram Stories that they will no longer be presenting West “due to his harmful and hateful remarks that myself nor 33&West can stand for.”
West is also being sued by an ex-worker
An ex-Yeezy employee who said she worked as a marketer within the company in 2024 sued West in California superior court on Tuesday, alleging that he had harassed her based on her religion and s*x.
The Jewish woman claimed that she was sent p*rnographic material, and was subject to antisemitic remarks; the likes of texts that read, “Welcome to the first day of working for Hitler.”
Although the rapper is on a hate spree, it seems companies, agencies, and individuals alike are all trying to stop him.
