Yesterday, the world learned of Shannen Doherty’s tragic death. The beloved actress, known for her roles in “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Charmed,” succumbed to her long battle with breast cancer. She was 53. Fans and celebrities alike are mourning the loss of this incredible woman.
Doherty’s death was confirmed by her publicist on July 14 in a heartfelt statement
It was revealed that on Saturday, the actress “lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease,” the statement read. “The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie,” the statement said. “The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace.”
She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015
After nearly a decade, Doherty revealed the cancer had spread to her bones. “I’m not done with living. I’m not done with loving. I’m not done with creating. I’m not done with hopefully changing things for the better,” she told People at the time.
She shared a final health update with her Instagram followers last month
On June 25, Doherty shared an Instagram Reel featuring a clip of herself speaking on her podcast Let’s Be Clear. “I have no idea how long I’m going to be the chemo for. I have no idea if it’s going to be three months or if it’s going to be six months… That’s not something I can predict. It’s not something my doctors can predict. It’s scary; it’s like a big wakeup call,” she said.

The Gateway actress, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer herself, shared a touching tribute on Instagram, posting a carousel of photos of Shannen and a caption expressing her heartbreak. “Cancer is really f—ing scary and Shannen faced it with such dignity, strength and grace,” Munn penned.
Tori Spelling
Tori Spelling, Doherty’s “Beverly Hills, 90210” co-star, shared an emotional post. She recalled their 36-year friendship, describing Doherty as a rebellious spirit who always had her back. “She gave me the belief I had a voice and was worthy. We became fast best friends. We were each others wing women, true confidantes, support systems navigating bad relationships, roomates of sorts at times, travel buddies, and so much more. She always stuck up for me. Always had my back,” Spelling wrote.
Brian Austin Green
Brian Austin Green, also a “90210” alum, called Shannen his sister in a heartfelt message. “Shan, my sister. You loved me through everything. You were a big part of my understanding of love. I’ll miss you more than I can process right now,” he shared.

Garth shared nostalgic photos and a moving message about Doherty, who she first became friends with on the set of Beverly Hills 90210. “Our connection was real and honest. She was one of the strongest people I have ever known,” she wrote. Garth also noted the mutual respect and admiration they had, despite often being pitted against each other: “…None of that reflected the truth of our real relationship which was one built on mutual respect and admiration.”

Priestly, who played Doherty’s brother Brandon Walsh on Beverly Hills 90210, shared an old photo of the two sharing a hug and an emotional caption. “Shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of my friend Shannen. She was a force of nature and I will miss her,” he wrote.

Carteris posted a photo of the sky with a touching caption: “So young – so sad. May you RIP, Shannen. I know Luke is there with open arms to love you,” she wrote, referencing their late co-star Luke Perry who passed away suddenly in 2019 of a stroke at 52 years old.
