Seth Rogen thinks people “just don’t care” about the Oscars anymore, and he might be right.
Award shows have become arguably less popular among viewers since the fall of cable television. And over the years, award shows have been getting called out for their prejudices, causing many to boycott them altogether. But the Superbad actor thinks there’s a fair chance that people just don’t care anymore.

Some may argue that the Oscars — and award shows in general, aren’t quite what they used to be.
But in an effort to spice things up this year, the Oscars decided to include a host for the first time since Jimmy Kimmel in 2018.
While the name of the host-to-be hasn’t been revealed just yet, neither Seth nor his frequent costar Paul Rudd feel like it’s a job they would hypothetically want.
So we can safely assume it’s neither of them! But they did have a recommendation of someone they would like to see host the Oscars one day.
“That’s a tough one,” Seth admitted, adding that he doesn’t think any comedians would be up for the task.
“I’m sure there are comedians out there that want to, right?” he said before he and Paul agreed that it would need to be someone “outside the box.”
They suggested Nathan Fielder or HBO’s “How To with John Wilson” creator, John Wilson.
When Insider asked Seth if he’s ever had any conversations about being a host, he said: “Maybe a soft conversation,” with a laugh.
“I don’t think I would be a good host,” Paul added.
In a recent interview with Insider, alongside “Living With Yourself” star, Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen got real about award shows and why it doesn’t make sense to care about them.
He presented the argument that show business is the only industry where the public is supposed to care about their accomplishments.
The 39-year-old admitted that he’s unsure if the public’s investment in the Oscars is genuine after all these years.
Not to mention, the pandemic’s effect on award shows since 2020.
“I don’t get why movie people care so much if other people care what awards we give ourselves,” he said.
He added that as far as he’s concerned, people probably don’t really care.
“To me, maybe people just don’t care,” the Pineapple Express star said, pointing out that he isn’t personally interested in awards given out in other industries.
“I don’t care who wins the automobile awards,” Seth said. “No other industry expects everyone to care about what awards they shower upon themselves.”
Seth thinks it may be possible that at one point people cared about the Oscars, and that there was a height to its popularity that has been diminishing ever since, and the novelty has probably worn off by now.
Not a bad theory at all, IMO.
“Maybe people just don’t care,” he said. “Maybe they did for a while and they stopped caring. And why should they?”
