Selena Gomez is under fire on Twitter after her newest photoshoot with Interview magazinehas gone viral, and probably not for the reasons the magazine may have hoped that it would.
Selena Gomez is having a busy year.

She released her third album, Rare , after a five year break, and she’s been doing a lot of hard work to promote it and the deluxe edition that was just released. Her promo included a new interview and photoshoot for Interview magazine.
When the new photoshoot was shared online, fans had a lot to say.
Many thought that Selena’s skin was way too dark, and felt that, with the hair and makeup choices, it was an attempt to make her look more black.
Fans took to Twitter to share their opinions.

“Let’s get something straight…. there’s nothing wrong with a tan BUT when you add baby hairs and turn the tan to 100… you’re blackfishing. Selena looks like that episode of Spongebob when his tan [expletive] up,” one fan tweeted.
Another pointed out the double standards.
Celebrities like Ariana Granda and Bhad Bhabie have come under fire for similar comments about trying to look black, and some fans felt it wasn’t fair that Selena wasn’t receiving the same attention.
Ariana has been frequently accused of trying to look darker than she is naturally.
Her fans have defended her, claiming that her Italian ancestry means she tans heavily naturally, with one fan writing, “It’s a not uncommon look for Italian-Americans.”
Rapper Bhad Bhabie recently got caught up in a similar scandal.
After sharing videos on her Instagram where her skin appeared much darker than it normally looks, 17-year-old Bhad Bhabie was accused of attempting to look black as well.
Bhad Bhabie then caused a stir when she compared growing up “in the hood” to Tarzan being raised by gorillas.
Fans have been comparing the negative reaction that Bhad Bhabie received to Selena, and are finding it unfair that it seems like less people are angry with Selena.
However, some fans pointed out that, unlike Bhad Bhabie, Selena is Latina and is often pictured with a tan.
One fan even shared childhood photos of Selena where she looked incredibly tan and asked if she had been “blackfishing since she was a baby?”
Other fans pointed out that Selena had no say in the styling or the editing of the shot.
“NO BUT LIKE PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY DRAGGING SELENA FOR BLACKFISHING WHEN SHES LITERALLY MEXICAN AND THOSE PICTURES WERE EDITED BY THE MAGAZINE?????” one fan tweeted.
However, not everyone was convinced.
Some people argued that Selena’s natural skin tone is pale, even if she is Latina, and that this was a purposeful decision by the stylists and editors.
What do you think?
Was Selena too tan in the magazine, or are fans getting too outraged over what might be her natural skin tone? Let us know your opinion in the comments!
