Sadly, actor Al Brown has passed away. He was most known for his part in the acclaimed HBO series The Wire . After a struggle with Alzheimer’s, Brown’s daughter, Jenny, has confirmed to TMZ that her father passed away on Friday in Las Vegas. Age-wise, he was 83.

She also revealed to the outlet that he was an honorably serving 29-year-old Air Force veteran who did two tours in Vietnam before he entered the acting business in the 1990s.

Although Al is most known for his role as Col. Stan Valchek in the popular HBO series from the 2000s, he was a high-ranking Baltimore Police Department official who was frequently shown to be somewhat crooked and who gave the show’s protagonist cops trouble during their investigations.
His Character Featured In Five Seasons
The character Valchek appeared in all five seasons of The Wire , but he had a particularly significant role in Season 2 when he had to deal with dock workers who had been embroiled with the Greek mob. His portrayal as a devoted Polish American served as a running joke throughout.

Brown did a great job as that character for many years. Along with his work on HBO, he has appeared as a guest star in several other programs, including Rescue Me, Forensic Files, Law & Order: SVU, Commander in Chief, Maron, The Hustler, and others.
