Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are easily one of Hollywood’s most beloved and celebrated couples. They never take themselves too seriously and are always willing to go the extra mile for their fans.
Recently, Ryan and Blake attended the New York City premiere of Ryan’s upcoming film, The Adam Project . It prompted the star to discuss his and Blake’s own unique parenting style, which Ryan likens to a ” brown belt ” level of expertise.

In ‘The Adam Project’, Ryan plays Adam Reed: a gallivanting time-traveler who crash lands in the past.
In order to return home and repair the timeline, Adam (Ryan) must turn to his 12-year-old-past-self to repair his damaged ship and save the future from certain doom.
During the event, Ryan spoke with ‘ET’ correspondent, Rachel Smith, and dished about the film’s important themes.
Not only does Ryan’s action-packed sci-fi drama stress the importance of making good choices, but it also articulates the necessity of family — specifically as it pertains to parental relationships.
It got Ryan thinking about his own children and the choices that they’ll inevitably have to make as they grow.
“I think I would be psychotic if I didn’t want my children to at least, you know, try to do something right and with integrity ,” Ryan told ET .
“But my kids are 7, 5, and 2, so I’m not like, ‘You gotta get better grades!’ I mean, I’m just happy if they finished a bowl of cereal,” he joked.
Ryan and Blake share three beautiful daughters together: James, Inez, and Betty. When Ryan was asked about his and Blake’s parenting style/skill, he said with some uncertainty that it’s “Probably like a brown belt at this point ?”
For those who don’t come from a karate background, a brown belt is the second-highest level of ranked achievement.
It’s basically a way of describing someone who is almost a master , but still has areas for improvement — classic Ryan Reynolds self-deprecating humor at its finest.
“I don’t know. We’re working up the chain of command,” Ryan said with a smile.
Directing his attention back to The Adam Project , Ryan was then asked whether he himself would rather travel to the past or into the future, were he ever to be given the opportunity.
“I would be more curious to see what the future holds than the past,” he said thoughtfully.
Ryan reasoned that by going to the past, you’d wind up spending the bulk of your time trying to fix or repair broken events. Whereas in the future, you’d be able to see all the things you did right.
Ryan then shifted the conversation to his ongoing collaboration with director, Shawn Levy.
Ryan and Shawn first got together to create the beloved action-comedy Free Guy , which debuted in theaters and across streaming services last August. According to Ryan, the duo have plenty more in-store.
“We are working on three different projects right now,” Ryan stated matter-of-factly.
It’s clear that he and Shawn have incredible chemistry. Ryan also made sure to add that “We work very well together and I’m very grateful for that .”
‘The Adam Project’ is set to make its Netflix debut on March 11th.
