When we think of successful celebrity marriages with surprising age gaps , there are quite a few that might spring to mind.
Take Richard Gere, 72, and his wife, Alejandra Silva, 38, for instance. The pair have been happy as clams since they tied the knot back in 2018, proving that you can find love at any age.
“Pretty Woman” star Richard Gere, 72, and his wife, Alejandra Silva, 38, tied the knot in 2018 and have been living happily ever after since.
Proving that in spite of their 34-year age difference, and having got together much later in Gere’s life, love was still on the table.
Richard and Alejandra met when she was much younger after Richard borrowed a boat from her father for a film he was working on.
It wasn’t until years later that their relationship turned romantic.

The pair officially started dating in 2014, while they were both going through divorce proceedings with their former spouses.
“Love stories with a complicated beginning, where you have to overcome difficulties together, can bring you closer… I’m sure I did [have some doubts] at some point. In the beginning, he was more convinced than me. But from very early on, we felt that we were destined to be together,” Alejandra said of her and Richard’s early relationship.
The two tied the knot in 2018.
“This was really a private moment, just for the two of us, but what I can tell you is that he asked me to marry him in the most romantic hotel I’ve been to, in St Paul de Vence [in the South of France], on my birthday. I get emotional just remembering it,” Alejandra recalled of Richard’s proposal.
“I’m the happiest man in the universe,” Richard told HELLO! in an interview following their nuptials.
“How could I not be? I’m married to a beautiful woman who is smart, sensitive, committed to helping people, who’s fun, patient, who knows how to forgive, who’s a great cook – and who makes the best salads in the world! “
“I feel like I am in a true fairytale. Without a doubt, I feel like the luckiest woman in the world,” Alejandra added, returning the sentiment.
“What could be more romantic than a man who writes you songs every day?” she went on .
“He is the most humble, sensitive, affectionate, attentive, funny, generous man that I’ve ever met. What can I say? I’m so in love!” she said.
She explained that Richard finds a way to make her happy every day.
“How would you feel if each morning you were asked, ’What would make you happy today?’ Not a day goes by that he doesn’t mention how important I am to him. I feel very lucky.”
In 2019, Richard and Alejandra welcomed their first child together, a son named Alexander, and moved into a private ranch outside of New York City.
Speaking on their significant age difference, Alejandra told HELLO! , “He has promised me at least 20 good years! I have to confess that he has much more energy than me; he’s much more active.”
“I find it hard to keep up with him,” she admitted.
