A hair stylist has explained the reasons why actress Nichole Kidman frequently reaches for a wig, especially when attending industry events.
Kidman was known for her vibrant hair
The actress, who was once known for her naturally curly hair, has been showing up to events in completely different looks.
Most recently, she was spotted at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in a wig.
She had a wardrobe malfunction
The conversation around Kidman’s hair comes after the actress had a wardrobe malfunction at the 2025 Kering Women In Motion Awards and Cannes Presidential Dinner on Sunday, May 18.

Despite having been known for her red curls, Kidman almost always shows up at events in blonde styled wigs now, so why is that?
Hair stylist Adem Oygur shared the reasons why Hollywood stars might want to wear wigs.
Oygur mentioned more than one reason
As per Daily Mail, Oygur explained that celebrities tend to reach for wigs and hair extensions to achieve a more youthful look, since hair thins out and loses volume with age.
Kidman could also have her own reasons
But for Kidman specifically, it could be because the constant styling and change in hair colour has caused damage to her natural curly hair.
Oygur also mentioned that hormonal changes connected with menopause and perimenopause could cause hair to thin out.
Oygur explained why women reach for the mesh
“As a leading stylist, I see many women – especially those in the public eye – choosing wigs for a variety of personal and practical reasons. In Nicole’s case, there could be several factors at play,” Oygur said.
“Firstly, frequent bleaching or heat styling over the years can cause significant damage to the hair’s structure, leading to breakage, thinning, and a loss of elasticity,” he began.
Celebrities tend to see wigs are a safe option
“Wigs offer a protective alternative while allowing her to maintain the high-impact looks she’s known for without compromising the health of her natural hair,” Oygur explained.
“Another possibility is hormonal changes, especially around perimenopause or menopause, which can drastically affect hair texture, volume, and growth patterns.”
He explained that the side effects are common for women
Oygur went on, “It’s incredibly common for women to experience thinning or dryness during this time. Wigs can provide both a confidence boost and a low-maintenance way to manage these changes.”
“There’s also the creative freedom aspect – wigs allow for instant transformation without the long-term commitment or potential damage. For many women, especially in entertainment, it’s a smart and empowering choice.”
Kidman has spoken about her hair before
The actress previously told the BBC that her natural curly red hair made her feel unpopular, admitting, “I was very tall and very pale. I had red, curly hair and I was covered in freckles. I think my sense of belonging, in terms of belonging to the cool kids, wasn’t there.”
