The human body is a fascinating thing. No two bodies are the exact same (even identical twins have some differences). And there are so many factors that can cause some pretty interesting or uncommon things to happen to you.
These pictures show the uniqueness of the human body. We really are all one of a kind, and this list just proves it.
“Woman holding her diseased heart after a successful transplant.”

For most of us, we’ll never be able to hold our own hearts. We, uh, kind of need them where they are, after all. But for others, heart transplants are necessary and life saving, so they’ll have an old heart that’s pretty much useless now.
Isn’t it neat that we can put totally new organs in our bodies and live perfectly well?
“This weird thing I can do with the back of my palm.”

I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone’s hand do this before. Is it some kind of hand dimple? Because it seems like some kind of hand dimple to me.
And it at least doesn’t look like it’s painful. It’s just one of those random things only some people can do, I guess.
“My nails pushing the chemo out of my fingertips.”

Chemo really takes a toll on your body, but I never realized just how much until now. Even your fingernails get affected. It’s probably a little satisfying, seeing all the new growth coming out after the treatment is said and done. It’s scary, but a little hopeful, too.
“The way my husband’s toes are interlocked.”

That’s a lot of toes. The angle that this picture was taken at makes it look like this guy’s foot has twice as many toes as it should, which is way too many toes in my opinion. But some people just like to lock their toes together while they’re lying down, I guess.
“My dog jumped on my lap, giving me the most perfect, shark-tooth looking scratch.”

Our pets have a tendency to treat our skin like scratching posts. And while they (mostly) don’t mean any harm, it still really hurts!
This scratch looks like it came from something a lot bigger than a lapdog, which is both scary, and kind of impressive at the same time.
“I have partial heterochromia in both eyes.”

Heterochromia is a pretty rare condition that affects eye color. Basically, people have two differently-colored eyes (like one brown and one hazel, or one blue and one green). You see it a lot in cats, too.
I’ve never seen anyone with heterochromia that gives them different colors within each eye before. That’s so cool!
“This mega eyebrow hair, next to a normal eyebrow hair. Both from my left eyebrow.”

Have you ever found a weird, super long hair somewhere in your body? Like, a random long white hair on your back, or and extra long ear hair, or a super long eyebrow hair? Well, you’re not alone, since body hair is super weird and doesn’t always grow in the way it’s supposed to.
I wonder how long it took this person to notice their one long eyebrow hair…
“Son’s skateboarding bruise looks like the monster logo.”

Bruises are so weird. Sometimes they hurt but you can’t see them. Other times, they don’t hurt, but look like they should. And then there are the times when they resemble really random objects, like the Monster logo. What do you have to injure yourself on to get a bruise like that?
“My fingers are all weird… is this interesting to you?”

I wouldn’t call this person’s fingers weird. Even if they do bend in pretty odd ways. It’s more, like, uncommon than anything else. But it definitely is interesting. You don’t see someone with hands like this every day.
It’s amazing how our bodies can look so different, and yet function just the same.
“I have only four fingers on my left hand, and have and index finger instead of my thumb.”

That’s pretty fascinating. Humankind’s whole deal is having opposable thumbs to be able to open doors and things most other animals can’t. Even still some people are simply born without thumbs. But since humankind’s other thing is to be super adaptable, I don’t think it’ll pose a huge challenge in the end.
“My Stepdaughter’s actual hairbrush. That she uses. It looks like it is a hairbrush made of hair.”

Human hair is so weird. Some people have so much of it, they can comb and comb, pulling out hundreds of strands, and still have a thick head of hair.
I’d be lying if I said my brush has never looked like this before, but hey. At least I cleaned it.
“Frank Lentini had 3 legs, one which was absorbed from a conjoined twin.”

Before you go thinking that this can’t be real, it is . Frank Lentini had what’s called a parasitic twin, which left him with a third, fully functioning leg. It’s not pictured here, but he also had a fourth foot.
The amount of coordination it must take to walk with three legs is unreal, though.
“The Siberian Ice Maiden, also known as the Princess of Ukok, is a mummy of a woman with tattoos from the 5th century BC, Republic of Alta, Russia.”

When they say tattoos are permanent, they really mean it. This mummy’s arm is all inked up, and despite having died around 2500 years ago, it’s still there. I don’t know what kind of tattoo ink they were using back then, but it looks like it was pretty effective.
“Human skeleton compared to a gorilla skeleton.”

When they say we’re biologically similar to apes, they really weren’t kidding. Just looking at the skeletons alone, the gorilla looks like it could’ve been one of our early ancestors. The biggest differences are definitely the skull and feet, but there’s so much going on here that’s similar, it’s kind of crazy.
“Surgery today, first time taking it off in 11 years.”

So that’s what happens when you wear a ring every day for your entire married life. To the point where you don’t even take it off to sleep. That shows some serious devotion, but it also shows what happens to our bodies when we keep something on for years. Cool.
“Have you ever seen a split end like this?”

Split ends. The bane of our existence. Proof that our beautiful hair is nothing but a dry mess. And they don’t go away; your only hope is to chop ’em off.
I’ve never seen a split end quite like that one, though. It’s split in so many different places, it almost looks like a tiny ladder.
“My friend’s nail has a smiley face on it.”

Don’t worry, this guy isn’t flipping some kind of rude gesture. He’s just showing off his fingernail, which has a little smiley face. Or at least, the white spots are making it look like he has a smiley face on his fingernail.
And as we know, those spots are caused by calcium or zinc deficiencies . Time to drink some more milk.
“Heart shaped cut.”

What are the odds that your cut would end up looking like a heart? Pretty low, I’m imagining. Then again, cuts always end up looking like random shapes, so we really shouldn’t be surprised here.
At least this cut doesn’t seem super big or deep. Maybe it’ll form a heart shaped scar later on.
“Beard hair splinter on knuckle.”

Splinters suck because they can happen at any time, and can be so annoying to try and remove. This person was extra unlucky, and got impaled by his own beard hair , which shouldn’t even be that thick. But stranger things have happened, so we really shouldn’t doubt what’s happened here.
“The thorn that’s been traveling through my fingernail since July 18 completed its journey today.”

Sometimes, when you get injured in your fingernail, you can’t do anything but wait for it to grow out. Literally. But it will eventually grow out, and you’ll have normal looking fingernails again in no time. It’s just a matter of waiting for them to, well, grow. Which can sometimes take a while.
