Oscar season is officially upon us, which means tensions are high and fans are taking out each other’s throats over their favorites not being nominated over someone else’s favorite.
But now Issa Rae threw her shade into the mix by calling out the Oscars!
These, ladies and gentlemen, are the nominees for ‘Best Director’.
We’ve got Martin Scorsese for The Irishman , we’ve got Todd Phillips for Joker , Sam Mendes for 1917 , Quentin Tarantino for Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood and finally, Bong Joon Ho for Parasite .
Hm… There’s something missing on this list…

Oh yeah! There are no women on it!
And I know what you’re thinking, cynics: “Well if women didn’t direct any good movies this year, then why should they be in the category?”
Except, you know, ‘Little Women’ was directed by Greta Gerwig and is in the Best Picture category.
So don’t start with that.
Issa Rae ( Insecure ), was quick to sarcastically call out the lack of female presence in the category, congratulating “Those Men” when she presented the list of 2020 Oscar nominations early Monday morning.
All we can do is hope that female directors make it into the category next year.
People will definitely keep fighting for it to happen, that much is for sure.
