Every couple has issues that cause them to fight. Some issues can be helped and worked on, while others can break a relationship. Despite how much two people love each other when a problem arises in a relationship, there can sometimes be no turning back.
Bodily functions are part of human nature. However, what would you do if your significant other’s farts were so bad, they actually made you sick?
One woman recently shared her story on Reddit
The Reddit user, Due-Programmer859, wrote into the Reddit forum “True Off My Chest,” where people vent their problems to open up about her marital issues with her husband. The elephant in the room? Her husband’s farts are so bad, she doesn’t think she can actually stay married to him.
When the two began dating, the woman had no sense of smell
She wrote that during the Covid-19 pandemic, she caught the virus and lost her sense of smell — as did thousands of other people around the world. Therefore, she didn’t realize that his farts were so rancid right off the bat. But, his diet didn’t really help the situation, either.
“Once we got married, things went downhill very quickly. He started inhaling as many snacks and as much dairy as possible at night. Sometimes he would go out and get a deep dish, fried cheese, loaded pizza and devour it at 11PM,” she wrote.
The combo of all that food caused chaos in their home
Once she had her sense of smell back, the woman began to notice her husband’s farts were just downright awful. “At first I thought it was just a bad fart here and there. But as the nights progressed, I realised that the bad farts were becoming a nightly nightmare,” she continued.

The first time she smelled them fully, it made her sick
She confessed that the first time that one of the farts “really hit her in the face,” she ended up projectile vomiting from the smell. The wife even told her husband there may be a medical condition or something wrong with his health.
It got so bad that she decided to sleep in a separate room entirely from her husband to get away from his farts and the smell.
However, that didn’t stop him
The woman revealed that her husband snuck into her room — where she was sleeping with their daughter — and farted in there intentionally. All of this so that she would wake up dry heaving and become physically ill from the smell of his farts.
In the end, the wife began to sleep in another room with her door completely locked so that her husband wouldn’t come in and bother her with his rancid bodily functions.
When she spoke to him, he refused to change
The wife asked her husband to change his diet, but he refused.
“He said he will always choose that vibrational fart feeling and the fart smell and the grease snacks and the cheese above me. He said that is a hill he is forever willing to die on,” she wrote on Reddit. Despite this being about farts, the wife said it feels like a “bigger issue.”
People online were shocked at this man’s behavior
Some said that this husband was going to end up in an “early grave” due to his unhealthy lifestyle and his poor eating habits. Clearly, it is an issue due to the way his farts smell — there can be serious gastrointestinal issues happening in his body.
Dozens of people felt horrible for this wife suffering through the smells and the intentional farting around her.
Others agreed that it’s not just about farts
While the wife believed that their issues were “more than farts,” there were others who said yes, it’s not about farts — it’s more than that.
“The farts have nothing to do with the divorce. The problem isn’t the farts. The problem is that he’s choosing his own pleasure at your expense, draining the family budget and make the house uninhabitable for his own amusement with no sign of consideration for you,” commented SirEDCaLot.
Many people shared that this is a new level of disrespect
If his wife had to move to sleep in a separate bedroom, it’s clear that the problem was coming in between them. One would think that a husband who loves his wife would want to change to help save their marriage. Instead, he made it worse.
“He is humiliating you for fun. F**k. Him. No man like that should be around your daughter. He’s teaching her that mom isn’t worth respecting. Light his life on fire. He clearly doesn’t care about yours,” wrote Capchamyheart.
Some women agreed that divorce is warranted
Sure, some may think that farting is not grounds for divorce, but some women feel that they are.
“I routinely threaten my husband with divorce bc he farts so often I have nicknamed him trumpet trunk. It’s not the farts themselves, it’s the fact he doesn’t go in the bathroom or outside where there is 5 acres of land to go far on. Instead it’s always in the same room I am in, like it’s a big joke. It’s not funny,” shared Important-Ad3344.
