Experts and journalists have calculated the amount of money Mariah Carey makes every hour from her iconic Christmas song All I Want For Christmas Is You.
Festive season is finally here
It’s December, which means it’s officially the festive season. Those who celebrate Christmas around the world are getting ready to put up their decorations and listen to festive tunes until the 25th.
And of course, one of the most iconic tunes of all is All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey.
She released the song in 1995
Carey released the record-breaking track over three decades ago in 1995. It’s said to have taken her and songwriting partner Walter Afanasieff only 15 minutes to write and compose.
Could you imagine working on something for 15 minutes only to have it become and remain a classic years later?
People have calculated how much it has made
Although neither Carey nor her team have ever exactly shared how much money she makes from the song, outlets and experts have done the math, and it’s pretty mind-blowing.
According to the New York Post, Carey is said to make $3 million every year from the song alone.
This amounts to quite a lot
The outlet added that with that number in mind, as of 2021, the singer’s winnings from the Christmas song have amounted to over $60 million since its release.
To put this into perspective, this means Carey makes $316 per hour from the song alone.
Carey looks forward to the season
The singer previously said that she looks forward to the Christmas season so much that she’s often prepping for it months in advance.
She said, per The Sun, “We go to Aspen, which is my favorite place to celebrate Christmas because it’s always snowy and it’s one of the best places ever.”
Her family enjoys the celebrations
“We do all sorts of things. We go on a sleigh ride with the kids and my extended family, I cook, Santa Claus comes over,” Carey went on.
“I know it sounds like I’m making it up but it’s true — I know him personally, he’s my dude. We have live reindeer. It’s an extravaganza.”
