Miley Cyrus has shared a strange reason why she got engaged and it’s not one of the typical ones people usually give.
She got engaged this month
The Flowers singer recently announced her engagement to musician Maxx Morando, whom she began dating in 2021.

Cyrus joked about her decision
In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday, December 4, Cyrus, 33, joked about why she ‘really got engaged’ to Morando, 27, saying it was so he could help her get over her fear of paper.
“I hate paper,” the Grammy winner stated, adding that it makes her ‘want to vomit.’
The singer feels she’s a ‘Grinch’
“Christmas, I’m known as a little bit of a Grinch because I have a qualm with Christmas. I hate paper,” Cyrus said.
“The real problem for me with paper is when people have dry hands and they touch paper and then it’s Christmas and it’s cold and everyone’s hands are dry and they’re all touching paper.”
She considers it a phobia
The singer admitted that her long-standing discomfort about paper would be described as a ‘phobia’.
“It’s a phobia, and I think I need help,” she admitted. Beginning to gag multiple times while discussing the issue, Cyrus added that the paper makes her ‘sick’.
Cyrus even tried therapy for it
“It’s getting worse and so there does need to be some sort of intervention and I am gonna look into some sort of EMDR, being hypnotized about it because it is affecting my everyday life,” Cyrus said.
She struggles with packages
“Someone gets an Amazon box, I’m sick, because the cardboard is the worst of it all. It’s extra dry and there’s packaging within it,” Cyrus said.
“That’s the best part, that’s really why I got engaged because I just make my fiancé open all the packages outside.”
Kimmel then asked her how she’d sign papers
When the host asked Cyrus how she’d be signing her marriage papers if she really hates paper that much, she said it probably wouldn’t be as much of an issue since it’s made of specific paper and not cardboard.
She had the perfect solution for it
“Anything that’s got a smooth surface, that’s better. And from the last, I think I remember the paper is waxed,” Cyrus joked, referencing her marriage to Hemsworth.
“But I smoked one of those imaginary joints, so I can’t really remember.”
