Cleaning the house can be quite exhausting at times, and some days you really just want to get the cleaning done and out of the way without putting in too much effort.
So to help with those lazy and tired days, and the afternoons when you don’t have the time, here are some cleaning hacks that will leave your home spotless with the bare minimum effort.
Some days cleaning can be a hassle
Household chores can be difficult to keep up with while you’re having to work full-time, take care of your family, and spend all the time you can with them.
So instead of feeling bad about the lack of energy, experts have provided a few life hacks to help with everyday cleaning.
Keep a squeegee in the shower
A few of these hacks were posted by @neat.caroline on TikTok, a home expert based in New York City. Her first piece of advice is to keep a squeegee in your shower to clean up any soap debris on the walls.
All you have to do is wipe the surfaces down after every shower and this will prevent the soap from building up and requiring more effort to clean later.
Use vinegar to remove limescale
If you live in an area that only receives hard water, limescale could build up on your showerhead over time and become difficult to clean.
For this, Caroline recommends covering the showerhead with a vinegar-soaked paper towel and leaving it there overnight for a shiny showerhead the next morning.
Line your fridge with paper towels
This third hack is for your kitchen. In order to avoid having to tediously clean up crumbs from your fridge drawers, Caroline recommends lining them with paper towels.
The towels will catch all the crumbs and are easy to handle and replace whenever needed.
Clean your sink with lemon and salt
To get all the stickiness and grime off the inside of your sink, the content creator recommends using half a lemon covered with some salt and rubbing it all over the inside of the kitchen sink.
The lemon doesn’t even have to be freshly cut, it could be left over from a time you needed some lemon juice!
You only have to dust once a month
This next hack is from the TikTok guru Madame Sweat, who shared a magical cleaning mixture of water, vinegar, and olive oil on the app.
If you add this formula into a spray bottle and use it to wipe dust off your surfaces, you’ll only have to do that once every 3-4 weeks!
Quickly clean the inside of your washing machine
The washing machine is something we often put off cleaning because it seems time consuming, but Sophie Elizabeth on YouTube has shared that you can do so only using regular dish soap.
If you use the stuff with a scrubber and a piece of cloth, it can be enough to clean the inside of your washing machine.
Remove mold with kitchen towels
If your washing machine rim has collected mold you could “pack [the] rubber with folded sheets of kitchen roll and soak with bleach leave overnight, then remove and put on an empty wash.”
This was a comment under a post asking for cleaning advice on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group.
Use vinegar to banish mold completely
Everyone tries to avoid getting mold in their house by cleaning off condensation and keeping the fresh air flowing.
But if you already see the stuff there, you could clean it with a paper towel and vinegar, which can oftentimes be cheaper and more effective than bleach.
Clean old mug stains with citric acid
If the insides of your mugs are stained with coffee and tea, Daily Express reporter Angela Patrone has shared that you could clean them with citric acid and boiling water.
There’s nothing more to this cleaning process except waiting 5 minutes for the antibacterial to work its magic!
Line your cupboards with newspaper
Instead of having to exert the large amounts of physical work it takes to free the kitchen cupboards of accumulated dust, TikTok user Jessica May suggests you line them with old newspapers.
That way, like the fridge hack we shared earlier, they are easy to replace and clean!
Keep your sofa clean with shaving foam
Cleaning expert Lorna White shared that applying shaving foam on stains on your sofa could easily remove them if you do not have an upholstery cleaner on hand.
All you need is for the foam to soak into the sofa before rubbing it off.
Remove pet hair with rubber gloves
If you’ve got a furry friend who sheds a lot of hair, things can get super messy quite quickly.
To clean up pet hairs off any surfaces, you could run a pair of household rubber gloves on your surfaces, which will cause all stray hairs to gather up in a ball for easy cleanup.
Use club soda to remove wine stains
We all know a wine stain is one of the toughest cleaning disasters of all time, but if you’ve spilt some on the carpet, don’t fret yet.
You can use club soda and rub it with a microfiber cloth to remove the stain.
Clean your ceiling fan using pillowcases
Finally, if you’re worried about the accumulated dust on your ceiling fan getting onto the furniture, you could cover each of its blades with a pillowcase and swipe.
This will make the dust fall into the pillowcases instead of on your furniture, avoiding having to reclean it as well.
