It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly a year since the devastating loss of Friends actor Matthew Perry. It was one of those celebrity deaths where you’ll never forget where you were when you first heard the news.
While it was no secret the actor had struggled with mental health issues and substance abuse, it seemed the star was thriving. He was part of the highly anticipated Friends reunion special in May 2021 and released his memoir a year before his death in October 2022.
The actor seemed healthy and happy, so when the news of his death broke, fans were shocked.
On October 28th, 2023, it was reported that Matthew Perry had passed away at the age of 54 after an apparent drowning in his jacuzzi.

Following Perry’s passing, it was revealed that acute effects of ketamine had been the primary cause of death.

About a month before his death, Perry was looking to purchase more ketamine than his doctor was prescribing and contacted Dr. Salvador Plasencia.
Plasencia then allegedly reached out to Dr. Mark Chavez who was able to obtain the ketamine, as per CBC.
“I wonder how much this moron will pay,” Plasencia texted Chavez, according to the prosecution. The pair then met up and exchanged at least four vials of the drug.
CBC reports that after Plasencia sold the drugs to Perry for $4,500 US, he allegedly asked Chavez if he could keep supplying them so they could become Perry’s “go-to.”

Understandably, this has been an incredibly difficult year for Perry’s friends and family.

Now, the actor’s mom is speaking out nearly a year since her son’s passing.
In an interview with TODAY, Suzanne Morrison spoke about one of the final moments she had with her son.
“He went through a period, interestingly enough, just before he died when he was showing me one of his new houses,” she began.
“He came up to me and he said, ‘I love you so much, and I’m so happy to be with you now. And I’m so…’ It was almost as though it was a premonition or something,” she said.

“…There was an inevitability to what was going to happen next to him, and he felt it very strongly,” she continued.

Fans have continued to remember the star on social media over the past year, even honoring what would have been his 55th birthday in August.
“On this day, we remember the light that was Matthew Perry,” the official Friends Instagram posted.
I think I speak for everyone when I say I hope justice is served so his legacy can rest in peace.
