Colson “Machine Gun Kelly” Baker embodied the essence of traditional rock artists at last night’s American Music Awards (AMA). The entertainer arrived on the Black Carpet wearing a sharp Dolce & Gabbana suit leaving us all wondering how he was sitting inside the venue!
In the last five years, MGK rebranded into a rockstar with bold fashion choices and unconventional business moves, so it’s no surprise his fanbase multiplied enough to snag him the Best Rock Artist Award at the AMAs.
Spiked Up At The AMAs
Underneath the spikes, MGK wore a royal purple single-breast suit with cropped pants and black grunge boots. His recently pink hair was absent; instead, we got a bleached blonde shaggy cut.
The rockstar heavily accessorized his D&G look with a necklace and some rings. His outfit wasn’t the only thing spiking at the award show, as MGK used his acceptance speech to fire back at trolls and critics.
He reiterated his point via his Instagram caption saying,
A Rocket Man Not A Tourist
MGK’s acceptance speech referenced his consecutive wins thanks to his fans saying this means he’s not a “tourist” but a “rocket” man.
According to the artist, some rockstars didn’t believe he deserved to be in that genre because he’s shifted sounds throughout his career – from rap to rock. MGK explained that his back-to-back rock albums were experiments based on curiosity, and he’s glad they took off successfully.
Going Up Against Top Rock Albums

Last year, MGK hit at the Grammys and other significant awards for excluding him from the rock music conversation because he’s different. This year, he earned his first nomination from the Recording Academy for his album, Mainstream Sellout, which will compete in the Best Rock Album category.
Mainstream Sellout is going up against Dropout Boogie (The Black Keys), The Boy Named If (Elvis Costello & The Imposters), Crawler (Idles), Patient Number 9 (Ozzy Osbourne), and Lucifer on the Sofa (Spoon). That’s some tight competition.
Still Going Strong
The rockstar was noticeably missing his fiancée, Megan Fox, on the carpet, but that’s not saying they’re not together anymore. It was the first time they attended a significant event apart hence the raised eyebrows.
However, their joint appearance at the GQ Men of the Year Awards gala assures fans that all’s well in paradise. We’ll hear wedding bells soon, like their friends Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker.
