Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are renowned for their unconventional parenting techniques. Now, after a recent episode of Dax’s Armchair Expert podcast, the couple is once again making headlines.
During the episode, Kristen revealed that she and Dax share a bedroom with their daughters Delta and Lincoln. As you’ll soon come to see, her story isn’t just strange — it’s downright disgusting .
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have become well-known for their often controversial approach to parenting.

Back in 2018, the couple turned more than a few heads after Kristen revealed their unconventional method for sleep-training their youngest daughter, Delta.
Since the young girl refused to stay in her bed, Kristen and Dax simply locked the 3-year-old in her room at night.

In August of 2021, the couple again made waves when they announced that they don’t regularly bathe their children.
As you can imagine, this made people feel a LOT of things online, and they made sure that they told the celebs exactly how they felt.

“It’s not so much of a joke that we wait for the stink,” Kristen said during an interview with Daily Blast Live . “That tells you when they need to bathe .”
Today, Kristen and Dax are in the hot seat once more.

On a recent episode of Dax’s Armchair Expert podcast, Kristen and Dax revealed that they share a bedroom with daughters Delta and Lincoln. I guess locking the young girl in her room at night was all for nothing?
It all began with an innocent family ritual of watching TV together before bed.

Before long, the situation dissolved into a permanent family slumber party. Every night, Delta and Lincoln would bring their pillows and blankets into their parents’ room and sleep soundly on the floor.
For some parents, this might sound like a comfy cozy family arrangement, but not according to Kristen.

Both Dax and Kristen let it slip that the worst part about having their children sleeping in the same room with them isn’t the lack of personal space — it’s the smell.
Kristen began her story by explaining how she awoke from a dead sleep to a rotting smell emanating from somewhere in the bedroom.

Kristen asked aloud “‘Who’s farting?’ All three of them are like, ‘Sorry, it’s me,’” she explained. “So I go, ‘OK, my family has gas .” Or at least, that’s what she initially thought.
The next morning, as Kristen was going about her day, she again smelled the same raunchy smell pouring out of the bedroom.

“That night, I go to bed, I’m like, ‘Does anybody else smell this, like, rotten garbage?’” she recalled .
Kristen’s clan admitted that they too noticed the smell and the family set to work to identify it.

I don’t know why but this feels like a scary story to me. I don’t know that I’d be brave enough to find out what the smell is. But alas, let’s continue…
Kristen washed the sheets as the kids began searching for hidden animal poop.
With no resolution in sight, Kristen got down on her hands and knees and began sniffing around the room.

When she got down to Dax’s corner of the bed, she almost threw up on the spot.
“I almost passed out. It was so strong,” Kristen said incredulously.

Further investigation revealed that Dax had mistakenly poured a protein shake into the couple’s Ooler mattress in lieu of cold water.
And that what the family was smelling was actually rotting protein powder.

For those (like me) who didn’t already know, an Ooler topper regulates the temperature of your mattress by circulating cold water throughout.
It should go without saying that filling the Ooler with days-old protein powder is most assuredly a bad idea.

Once Kristen and Dax figured out the problem, they quickly began working on deep-cleaning the mattress.
“Dax takes it downstairs and hooks up the power washers to it to push everything out of the tubes,” Kristen said.

Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, it was all in vain. The mattress was ruined and the family was forced to sleep on the soiled Ooler for yet another night.
The moral of the story, according to Kristen and Dax — make sure to always double-check.

That way, you’ll never run the risk of pouring soiled protein powder into a $1000 mattress topper .
I can say one thing: I will never let my children sleep on my bedroom floor after this story, that is for sure..
