When you’re a parent in the public’s eye, even the most innocent photo or update about your children can spark a huge online debate.
That’s exactly what happened to Kim Kardashian when she posted a picture of her new baby boy, Pslam.

She’s come a long way since being a regular on Keeping Up With the Kardashians . The Kim empire just keeps growing and she’s basically become a modern queen.
She’s also the busy mom to four children with her husband, Kanye West.
Kim and Kanye are the parents of five-year-old North, three-year-old Saint, one-year-old Chicago, and their newest addition, a baby boy named Psalm.
Kim announced the birth of her son with this social media post.
It looks like a screenshot from her text conversation with her husband on Mother’s Day and a photo of baby Psalm. Adorable!
While many took the time to congratulate Kim and Kanye through social media on their new baby, many were concerned about Psalm’s crib.
Psalm was shown in a crib that had bumpers, a Dock-A-Tot (an infant mattress to be used for lounging, not sleep) and blankets.
All of those are considered no-nos for any infant crib because they pose suffocation risks and can lead to SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome).
Many comments urged Kim to look into infant crib safety.
While we don’t know if Psalm actually sleeps in that crib, or if it is more of a spot for Kim and Kanye to set him down, it is important to always keep crib safety in mind.
People were concerned over Psalm’s safety and were doing their best to inform Kim and not mom-shame her.
About 3,500 babies die every year due to SIDS or sleep-related causes, so there is definitely a reason for concern here. People just wanted to make sure little Pslam was safe and sound.
However, many of Kim’s fans defended her against the concerned commenters.
As long as little Pslam was being supervised and doesn’t normally sleep in that crib with all those blankets and bumpers, then it’s all good.
We don’t know for sure what the situation is, which is why it can be difficult to offer advice online without coming off as a mom-shamer.
For the record, current safety guidelines recommend that babies sleep alone in their crib or bassinet with only a fitted sheet.
Newborns can be swaddled with a blanket, but that should stop once they can roll over or unwrap the swaddle. Pillows, cot bumpers, and blankets can cause suffocation, so they should always be left out of cribs.
I don’t think Kim intended to spark so much debate from this post, but in a way, she’s helped spread awareness about this important safety issue.
