Buckle up, friends, because we’re about to dive into another chapter in the Kim Kardashian wearing Marilyn Monroe’s dress saga . Did I ever expect that this Met Gala red carpet moment would live on for nearly TWO MONTHS?! Absolutely not, but am I here for the drama ? Absolutely YES!
Last week, photos of Marilyn’s custom couture gown appearing ripped after Kim Kardashian wore it flooded the internet. Then, just a few days after that, a resurfaced video went viral that showed that the dress had already sustained some damage before it was worn to the Met is went viral.
Now, Kim is hoping to set the record straight in a new interview.
Life is short and time is precious so I’m not going to bore you by giving an entire rundown of the situation from the moment Kim Kardashian stepped onto the Met Gala red carpet until now.

However, I will be filling in all the important details that lead us to Kim’s recent interview with Hoda Kotb.
Once it was confirmed that Kim did in fact wear Marilyn Monroe’s “Happy Birthday Mr. President” couture gown from 1962, people were immediately enraged.
Fans, historians, and the actual designer himself, Bob Mackie, weighed in on the situation and everyone agreed it was in poor taste.
In response to the backlash, Ripley’s Believe it or Not! museum (the owners of the gown after it was purchased at auction) insisted that there was the utmost care put into the fitting.
There are videos of Kim being squeezed into the grown by handlers that are wearing silk gloves.
However, fans soon believed they had proof damage had been done after photos of the dress post-Kardashian went viral.
In a set of five Instagram posts shared from The Marilyn Monroe Collection, the account pointed out damage in the dress that included rips along the clasps of the dress and a bunch of missing crystals.
A few days after that, Kim’s fans fought back t the allegations that she damaged the dress by showing rhinestones missing and fabric stretched before the reality star ever wore it.
In a TikTok video posted by @gaymanwithaspraytan, he focuses on the video posted by Ripley’s Believe it Or Not of Kim’s initial fitting.
“This is footage of the dress that Ripley’s shared when Kim went to go visit and try it on for the first time. The rhinestones are missing, the clamps are all messed up, and this isn’t even closed,” the TikTok user said in the video.
Naturally, the reactions continued to be mixed and to be fair, there’s no denying the already slightly damaged dress got a lot more damaged after being worn again.
Okay, are you still with me? Great. The saga seems to be coming to an end with Kim breaking her silence in a new interview with “The Today Show.”
“We keep seeing stuff like, ‘The dress is ruined’ … All of that is not true?” Hoda asked the reality star, as per Page Six.
“No,” Kim replied. “Ripley’s [and I] worked together so well; there were handlers in gloves that put it on me.”
“It was such a process,” she continued. “I showed up to the red carpet in a robe and slippers, and I put the dress on on the bottom of the carpet, went up the stairs … I probably had it on for 3 minutes, 4 minutes.”
“I respect [Monroe], I understand how much this dress means to American history,” Kim added. “

And with the theme [of the Met Gala] being American, I thought, ‘What’s more American than Marilyn Monroe singing happy birthday to the President of the United States?'”
Well, there you have it…?
