Back in the ’90s, three flagship HBO series helped to push the conventions of television drama into the new millennium : The Wire, The Sopranos, and S*x and The City .
Recently, the latter returned in the revamped spinoff series And Just Like That , minus s*x-positive Samantha Jones, played by Kim Cattrall .
In a recent interview with Variety , Kim revealed that not only would she not be returning to the SATC universe — but she wasn’t even asked .
‘S*x And The City’ was one of the most iconic and important series of the ’90s.

The revered HBO series revolved around the working and dating life of Manhattan s*x columnist Carrie Bradshaw, and her three friends Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha.
The Emmy-winning dramedy ran for 6 Seasons, it spawned two feature films, and most recently — a rebooted spin-off series.

And Just Like That premiered on December 9th, 2021 — 17 years after S*x and The City was taken off the air. The principal cast members all reprised their respective roles, with one notable omission.
Kim Cattrall, who famously portrayed Samantha, was nowhere to be found.

Fans of S*x and The City were left wondering why Cattrall would’ve opted to not be included. According to a recent interview, it appears that she was never asked in the first place.
“I was never asked to be part of the reboot,” Kim told ‘Variety’.

“I made my feelings clear after the possible third movie, so I found out about it like everyone else did — on social media ,” Cattrall explained.
Back in 2017, Kim made it crystal clear that she was done playing Samantha.

Cattrall emphatically turned down the script for a possible third movie, after reportedly being unhappy with how Samantha’s storyline was to play out. Allegedly, Samantha was going to be sent unsolicited [expletive] pics from Miranda’s 14-year-old son, Brady .
According to Cattrall, ‘And Just Like That’ borrows heavily from the script of what would’ve been the third and final ‘S*x And The City’ film.

” The series is basically the third movie. That’s how creative it was,” she said.
Bleak though the situation seemed, many fans were still hoping against hope that Kim would return for Season 2 of ‘And Just Like That’.

Unfortunately, Cattrall was quick to shut those rumors down. “I’ve come to the conclusion that really the greatest compliment I could have as an actor is to be missed ,” she explained.
“It’s a great wisdom to know when enough is enough,” Kim continued.

Kim also expressed how she didn’t want to do anything to compromise the legacy of the original series — both for her as well as for her fans.
Kim was then asked to expound upon the working relationship she had with Sarah Jessica Parker and the rest of her former co-stars.

“I think we were colleagues,” she stated matter-of-factly. ” My colleagues aren’t my friends . It was professional.”
Instead of living in the past, Kim is directing her focus toward the future.

Over the past year, Kim has starred in the Hulu spinoff series How I Met Your Father and is eagerly awaiting her debut as Brenda in the revamped Queer as Folk.
Under different circumstances, she admits that she might feel differently about ‘SATC’ carrying on without her.

“I think I would ponder it more if I didn’t have something like Queer as Folk or How I Met Your Father ,” Cattrall said. “That’s kind of where I’m centered around. This feels like an echo of the past .”
