Once again, the Kardashians have made the headlines, but they aren’t looking too good this time. Khloé Kardashian seems to be in the mids of a legal battle with her former household assistant, who is suing her for various reasons.
She Was Under Paying Him
Matthew Manhard filed a lawsuit against the socialité because she apparently failed to pay his accorded wage and unfairly fired him after being on medical leave for six months after suffering an injury on his knee.
Matthew Was On Leave For Six Months
Manhard started working for Kardashian on January 2019 and finished his contract in November 2022. However, in May of last year, he had surgery due to a fracture on his knee that caused him to take some time off work.
He Was Let Go After He Returned
Matthew notified his employer of his condition the next day of the operation, and still, when he was able to go back to work, he was dismissed from his position without apparent reason. At the same time, Manhard affirms the Good American founder broke California labor laws.
He Never Received The Correct Compensation
According to the lawsuit, Kardashian was constantly making her assistant deliver multiple tasks that he could not complete, while he was staying overtime, working 12-hour shifts without receiving the required compensation, and she wasn’t allowing him to take his legal breaks because of the working load.
Apparently, Matthew Was Compensated
As Khloé’s legal rep said to TMZ , “It’s unfortunate to learn that a former employee would choose to go this route. Matthew was properly classified and compensated for his role,” as they dismissed the lawsuit where Manhard seeks monetary compensation.
He Needed To Be Replaced
Her team also explained that Matthew’s leave was so long that his position had to be replaced because of Khloé’s necessities. They added that they would not tolerate his false accusations towards the celebrity.
Matthew’s Claims Aren’t Frivalous
On the other hand, Matthew’s legal team is outrageous over Kardashian’s reaction, saying that her accusation that Manhard has evil pretenses behind the lawsuit is entirely false. The lawsuit states that he was “denied proper wages” during his time with Khloé.
They Said He Was Discriminated Against
They also added, “moreover, after Mr. Manhard sustained a knee injury, KhloMoney, Inc. retaliated against him for exercising his leave rights under California law to recover from his injuries, discriminated against him on account of his disability, and wrongfully terminated his employment.”
Khloé Hasn’t Said Anything
Matthew’s attorney finished their statement by clarifying that they will not let Khloé’s position and power bully Matthew until he withdraws his lawsuit. Unfortunately, Khloé herself hasn’t addressed the situation yet.
Another Person Claims They Never Got Paid
In the meantime, earlier this month, it was revealed that Khloé’s clothing line, Good American, was also being sued by a model, Jourdan Whitehead, who claimed she was never paid for a day of work worth $3,500 back in 2021.
She’s Looking For Overcompensation
Whitehead is suing Kardashian for $100,000, as she never received the check even though she was told she was going to be paid the next month of the shoot. Now, she states that as Good American broke California Labor Code 203, she’s entitled to overcompensation.
It Seems Like They Broke The Labor Code
The lawsuit states, “Labor Code section 203 provides that upon an employer’s failure to make timely payment of wages, the employee’s wages shall continue as a penalty until paid or for a period of up to 30 days from the time the wages came due, whichever period is due.”
Destiny Bleu’s Accusations
Though Kardashian’s team hasn’t addressed Jourdan’s affirmations, this isn’t the first time Khloé’s line has been accused of breaking the law. In 2021, the company was sued by d.bleu.dazzled, a clothing brand owned by a black designer.
Kardashian Knew About Bleu’s Designs
Destiney Bleu, the owner of d.bleu.dazzled, accused Good American of stealing her bedazzled designs. Bleu, whose designs have been worn by celebrities, such as Lady Gaga and Beyoncé, affirmed that Kardashian even purchased and borrowed some of her clothing items.
The Designs Were Suspicious
Months after Khloé received the clothes, Good American developed a new collection that looked oddly similar to Bleu’s design. However, there was no credit or acknowledgment of her intellectual property.
They Settled For $10M
Though Kardashian’s team said, “cheap publicity stunt and an attempt by Ms. Bleu to get her 15 minutes of fame,” regarding Destiney Bleu, they ended up settling on a confidential agreement that benefited both parties, and Good American gave d.bleu.dazzled $10M.
Kim Faced Similar Accusations
Similarly, her sister, Kim Kardashian, went through a similar situation in 2021. The reality TV star was sued by seven workers who accused her of breaking several labor laws in California.
Child Labor Violations
The allegations went from unpaid overtime to child labor violations. However, her team responded, “These workers were hired and paid through a third-party vendor,” and Kim wasn’t involved with the third party.
Will They Settle?
It is still left in Khloé’s current lawsuit; maybe we will find more about it on The Kardashians’ next season.
